No. I can't believe it.
Health professionals and HIV prevention specialists are starting to see a very unexpected and to most an unbelievable phenomenon. A small group of gay men are trying to get infected with HIV. Often called "bug chasers", these men seek out other gay men who are infected, in hopes of having unprotected sex in an effort to become infected with HIV. Across the Internet, chat rooms and newsgroups are advertising "conversion parties" where negative men seek out those who are positive in hopes of getting infected.
How Common is This?
The number of gay men looking to become positive seems to be growing. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control (The CDC) reports a new surge in the incidence of HIV among gay males, in part due to this unthinkable practice.

believe it.... Are you trying to generalize a small group of people as indicative of the gay culture as a whole? If so, that is horrendously flawed logic.
What part of the word "some" don't you understand?
Some Gay Men Want AIDS...I never said every gay person does this.
And what part of "I was asking you a question" don't you understand? I was clarifying your position, no need for you to get condescending. |

And yet you say this is evidence that "this" is a serious mental issue, and I know what you were suggesting. Since the "evidence" was this story, the "this" was clearly homosexuality.
And how about the gay lifestyle spurs nothing but disease?
You've done enough to imply that gays are all sick and that this is evidence of it. Which is suggesting that this applies to more than the extreme minority of gays it does, if at all. |

He says its only "some" gays, and yet he's using it as evidence to imply all gays are "sick". |

Gay people should not pretend such a thing would not exist. The fact that contracting aids is but the ultimate vehicle to take them to this existence would actually make sense. I personally do not think that most gay men are seeking this out. But it is a problem which is now cutting into our advances we have made on the disease in terms of the rate of infection now going back up instead of down. Both the gay and straight culture has sexual problems which they must do better to confront. Along with behavior which is being swept under the rug in order to put a better face on their lifestyle. I'm not singling out homosexuals for this, merely stating that the gay community needs to address this in terms of the sub culture actively seeking infection. Leadership can save many lives, or it can sweep it under the rug in an attempt to put a better face on homosexuality in order to gain acceptance among the majority of those who are not gay.
Okay, I've never heard of this strange problem or "bug parties" or whatever. Implying this is a huge problem within the gay community is dishonest. However if it does occur, even minimally, I will address it now.
Those people need to seek help.
Happy? This isn't about me trying to "sweep under the carpet" the problems of the gay community to save face as much as it is defending against attempts to portray the entire gay community as ill by using this as evidence. DUH those people are crazy. Does anyone even need to say that someone who would actively try to get AIDS needs psychological help? Opponents of homosexuals should stop trying so hard to grab any bit of evidence they can to portray gays as altogether sick, they just make themselves look disingenous and pathetic. |

| There are proper psychological reasons for this, they get treated like s**t by people, abused and disciminated against and they see the AIDS Virus as giving them enpowerment. |

That what is a "serious mental issue"? Being gay or wanting AIDS?? Because the two are not interchangeable. You find a few nuts who apparently wants AIDS (or appear to say so) and suddenly thats proof that gay people are mentally ill? Incredibly weak arguement. I agree anyone who wants AIDS is not right in the head, where you're wrong is when you suggest that this is typical of gay people. Its absurd really.
People usually don't admit when there is some wrong with them. It's ok it's natural, unlike your sexual lifestyle that spurs nothing but disease.
Non-factual statement. There are homosexuals without AIDS, who will never get it, and that's enough to make your claim completely and utterly false. |

Seriously though this proof only that their are some people who are unbalanced.....kind of like the fact that most child molesters are heterosexual. Unbalanced but not indicative of all hetero people.
link please?
Not that it matters but if you touch little boys, liberalman, you are not a "hetero".
You aren't homosexual either. Normal, healthy people, gay or straight, don't most children of either gender. |

Then so what? What should we do about it? What is there to debate then? Your factual statement is just that. I think everyone here agrees that people wanting to contract HIV to fit in or for whatever reason probably needs help. Is there anyone who thinks otherwise? |

I specifically noted in my post that I do not feel that a majority of gay people who want this, just that it is a sad subculture of people who are imbalanced and it should be addressed. As I also noted that there are heterosexual problems that also need to be addressed. Since the topic is of these "bug parties" I am responding to such. |

After three pages of posts, I am still curious what there is to debate here. Infinite posted an article that basically has nothing but rumors about a practice that has not a single documented case of ever occurring, though is hardly inconceivable. And, ummm, it sounds pretty bad, though it if it exists at all is certainly reserved for an extremely rare and mentally disturbed minority.
So what is there to debate? |

So what is there to debate? IMO not everything needs to be brought to debate. Sometimes, especially in a society post issues can simply be discussed. |
