I asked him what is a "serious mental issue," being gay or wanting AIDS? He eventually responded saying:

"People usually don't admit when there is some wrong with them. It's ok it's natural, unlike your sexual lifestyle that spurs nothing but disease."

Read between the lines for God's sake. I'm not an idiot. Just because you agree with him doesn't mean I can't tell what "serious mental issue" was implied, especially considering past conversations we've had on the topic.

No, you're a sad person. This is not a widespread occcurence, even if it exists (apart from online, that is). Can you provide one actual documented case? Millions of people die of AIDS each year, yes, and it is tragic. Many of those people are not even gay. It is a disease, not some message from God, okay? Being that I work in the field of mental illness I can attest to the fact that there are people who actively seek to harm themselves, end their life or live a fatalistic life which will garantee a tragic horrific ending. Gay or straight, it exists.

Gay people should not pretend such a thing would not exist. The fact that contracting aids is but the ultimate vehicle to take them to this existence would actually make sense. I personally do not think that most gay men are seeking this out. But it is a problem which is now cutting into our advances we have made on the disease in terms of the rate of infection now going back up instead of down. Both the gay and straight culture has sexual problems which they must do better to confront. Along with behavior which is being swept under the rug in order to put a better face on their lifestyle. I'm not singling out homosexuals for this, merely stating that the gay community needs to address this in terms of the sub culture actively seeking infection. Leadership can save many lives, or it can sweep it under the rug in an attempt to put a better face on homosexuality in order to gain acceptance among the majority of those who are not gay.

Often called "bug chasers", these men seek out other gay men who are infected, in hopes of having unprotected sex in an effort to become infected with HIV. Across the Internet, chat rooms and newsgroups are advertising "conversion parties" where negative men seek out those who are positive in hopes of getting infected.

How Common is This?
The number of gay men looking to become positive seems to be growing. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control (The CDC) reports a new surge in the incidence of HIV among gay males, in part due to this unthinkable practice.
