Does anybody know anything about this gun? Is 115 is a good price for this type of gun? Is it worth buying (ie, is it not only cool but also functional and worth shooting)? |

THe mossant Niagnt is a good rifle. It is acurrate, and this perticular gun has some historical significance.
And $115 dollars for it, that is a great deal. That seller is a moron to sell it for that cheep. I would pay $1,0000 for it if I had that much money. Thomsons that are younger sell for 10 grand. Make sure the weapon was well maintained. If the thing is rusted or in bad condition, get a refund. Make sure it is not fake. This may be a slippery deal. |

How do I make sure it's not fake without making the seller wise up to the fact that maybe he's selling a bit cheap?
And, am I correct to assume that the value of this gun will go up as time goes by? |

Hmm.......
Try to get him to show you pictures of the serial number. Just tell him to show you proof. |

Just hope nobody tells him that he is misinformed. |

Use PayPal.
$115 is a great deal, Mosin Nagants are very, very, good guns for the price. M44's are cool because the point of impact changes when you attack the bayonet.
I have an 1891/30 Mosin Nagant (dated 1943), the only real complaint i have is the recoil.

To get an idea as to whether or not it is fake or not note where the id marks are at,,,,
Also this site has some remarkable information on serial numbers and markings so as to make sure you are getting an authentic weapon and not a fake....$115.00 is a good price though.

| For the same amount of cash you can get a Swiss K31. The caliber is an oddball (7.5 Swiss) but is virtually identical in performance to the .308 Win. Plus, the ammo you can buy for it as surplus is match grade, so the rifle typically shoot less than MOA. One of the best bolts actions every fielded by a military. |

Mosin's are nice weapons indeed, but I'm with Rook on the K-31. It's an incredible rifle. Mine shoots better than I can. Once you're familiar with it's design, the straight-pull bolt won't make you nervous either... ;) Ammo is cheap and in good supply - as Rook said, surplus ammo is match grade!
The other thing that is neat, is that most of them have the soldier's information tucked away inside the buttplate. I actually tracked down the soldier that carried my rifle and we've been corresponding for 2-years.
Another surplus rifle bargain I recently picked up is the Serb-Mauser (K98/M48). It's like a walk through time. Nothing like opening up a box with a WW-II era rifle inside and finding that it's new - I mean new! It comes jammed with accessories and can be had in collectors grade for about 200-bucks. Again, 8mm is plentiful in supply.
The Mosins are nice for sure, but there's other options out there... |

RooK brings up an excellent point, the K-31 is excellent. Far more superior than the Mosins, in about every way, accuracy, value, etc, etc, etc.

| Wolverine, the stock on that one look pretty good. Refinish or did it come that way? Also, does it have the original owners tag under the buttplate? |

I had $100, but I spent it on shoes, this key board, a cooking pan, a s**t load of picture frames, and tic tacs. Why did I waste my money? |

I bought an M44 Mosin-Nagant produced in 1944 by the Izhvesk Arsenal (sp?) which is in excellent condition, with most of the finish on the stock intact and over 95% of the finish remaining, with a bore that's bright and shiny and has crisp and well-defined rifling. I got it on sale for $80 at Big 5 Sporting Goods, and it came with a sling with the "dog ears", ammo pouch, and complete cleaning kit. All of the others at the store for the same price were covered in cosmoline and looked terrible. You can probably get one for under $100 if you look.
I second the K-31. I bought one for $100 and it's my favorite rifle. It was made in 1948 and has a walnut stock; unfortunately there was no soldier's tag underneath the buttplate. It's a little rough on the outside, bu the bore is excellent, and it is the most accurate rifle I have. |

That would have been my question. Beautiful stock all in all. |

Mosins are cheaper than dirt, $115 isn't out of the ordinary.

Yeah, the stock is totally original, and it did come with the owners tag under the butt plate. :-D We didn't even order the one with a tag, we just took our chances. :) |
