This might have come up before, I don't know.
Apparently at Area 51, conspiracy theorists claim, they work with flying saucers. These saucers, according to the person who broke the story, can lift straight off the ground, like helicopters. Also adding to the mystery surrounding Area 51 is that the runway is rumored to be the longest in the world, possibly as long as 24 miles.
Non-conspiracy theorists say, in my understanding, that at Area 51 they work with new kinds of airplanes.
My question is this: if they work with flying saucers that lift up off the ground, therefore not needing a runway, why is it they need a runway so long at Area 51?
Maybe there is some obvious answer that has yet to occur to me?

a: runway is an entry/exit device not necessarily a hub or testing thing.

b: runway is a decoy to aerial investigation

c: everything said about area 51 is bs cause they have a runway.

Great thread!

Area 51 is where our latest technology gets tested. It is later revealed that the technology such as the F-117 had been around much longer than people thought. Undoubtably they are working on other designs. I have no idea about how long their runways are, but 24 miles seems kind of unnescessary. 24 miles OF runway perhaps.

Flying saucers? They were actually working on designs for vertical lift that would resemble the flying saucer. They didn't pan out to well.

Not so sure about Area 51 and its layout. As for flying objects that are outside of our convention, I have seen 2 of the same on 2 seperate occasions.

Luckily there were people there with me to witness, otherwise I'd have thought I was just seening stuff, or flat out gone insane.

1. I was working in Yellowstone just after college in 1998. I and about 15 others went to 'the Canyon' (Canyon Location) to hangout and check out the stars and whatnot. We'd lay on our back right on the edge of the walkway and look up. After a few hours I myself noticed something way way up in the sky swaying and weaving back and forth really slow. In perspective it looked like a dot was going around the stars like a pinball against the the bumpers. For about 2 minutes I watched as it continued this pattern, slowly working its way north in the zig zagesque pattern.

Just as I was about to say something, someone else asks the group if they see it. I knew then I wasn't nuts or seeing stuff. One by one everyone began to see it all but this one poor girl who kept saying "I don't see it!!" Over and over.

For about 20 minutes we watched this thing work its way towards the northern horizon. By then the sun was close enough (especially at 6-8k feet up) to the horizon to actually give us the last glimps of the object as a single reflection until it died once and for all. For the rest of that season it was all we could do to go and catch another one.

2. The second time was in Texas on the coast in Galveston. I had been down there all day and was in the car looking out of the sun roof as the day went completly black and all the stars came out. As I was waiting for my friend I noticed the same dot like object, way way up there, moving through the sky in a zig zag pattern. I yelled for my friend to come look and he too could spot it. As like before, we sat for about 20-30 minutes and watched this thing head out towards the horizon, this time south-east into the Gulf of Mexico.

I don't know what to think about it but it wasn't something that is a known flying object.

Sorry to hijack the Area 51 thing, but yeah...

johnflesh, there is a huge preponderance of evidence establishing that UFOs exist, because of credible video and cases where UFOs have been cited in major cities, by large populations.

The problem, though, is that people automatically make the jump from UFOs to extraterrestrial life. For all we know, UFOs are a strange kind of atmospheric condition that's so rare that scientists haven't been able to study it. Or it could be some kind of spy plane, developed by the government. There are so many plausible, rational explanations that there's no need to make the jump to claiming that aliens exist.

UFOs, though, do definitely exist.

All you need to know about UFO's is in the disclosure project. Over 700 military and government personnel all claim the same thing, that UFOs exist. Look up the disclosure project.

I agree they exist. Infact, as I stated, I've seen one, twice.

My point being that the long runway kind of supports the theory that they are testing terrestrial aircraft.

Whoa! Could I have some clarification please? Were you there and suddenly "looking out of the sun roof .....the day went completly black" and "all the stars came out" or were you just there all day, into the night?

We may need to call the Pope if the former case be accurate.

Trying to make flying saucers with a "cool" design like most fighter jets, hahahahahahah, yeah right, its about style then what it can do.
