Today i discussed the Babylon Tower episode with a collegue of mine, and if im not mistaken this episode is in the bible, mentioning that nowadays we speak diffrente languages because babylonies were building a tower to reach God.

Now, this collegue of mine really belives that this episode happens. He really belives that the tower was destroyed due to the wrath of God, which explains why we speak different languages nowadays.

In my opinion...this episode (actually most of the bible) is a myth. A myth to explain why're there so many different languages and that we shouldn't build a tower to reach god, because if you want trully to reach god, you'll need faith, and ofcourse some lilttle donations to the nearest church.

I wanted to ask to all the christians out there if they really belive this happened. If it really did, why did God destroid the tower? The tower would never have reached God...maybe they were using slaves to build it, actually, it is obvious that slaves were used, but that isn't the morale of the history is it??

It is most likely that it is a story told to prove a point and an attempt to explain why there are different languages. I suppose it all depends on if you believe in a literal translation of the bible or not.

What about Adam and Eve? You see it as story told to prove a point and an attempt to explain how humanity was born?

If you are predisposed to believe that such stories are fabrications what's the point of people telling you otherwise, so you can laugh? I just don't get what you legitimately want out of this.

I see it as one of two things:
1) a human attempt to explain the question of 'where did we come from?' regardless of Gods existence or not, or
2) a human attempt to write down what was shown to them by God in the only, limited way they could understand it. Like having a three year old paraphrase one of the God Father movies - they would get it as they understood it, but miss all the intricate details

Many believe that it just wasn't a simple tower but perhaps some sort of stargate. Also some believe that Adam was a generation of people just like Noah and so forth. Some also beleive the God of the Ot and NT are different. Some ancient Babylonian religions are simliar to the OT except they had more chacters. For instance, there wasn't one God but a race of gods, etc.
