I've only caught excerpts from his speech but it appeared to be 'workmanlike'. But I think the talk of substance over style takes a beating with the opening montage of 'Ming - A Life' with its "high-energy music". |

| His suggestion to move taxation away from income ("good things") and onto externalities ("bad things") is a nice approach, could go further though. |

"Terrorism thrives where civil liberties are denied,"
"Terrorism is not being defeated, it is being invigorated. Freedom is not being spread, it is being undermined."
Those are why everyone should vote Lib Dem. The tax reforms I think are in general good ones. |

| The thing about Ming is, that he may well be a good, decent, intelligent man. But he just doesn't come across like a leader. Blair does; he's a great speaker, he's able to gain backing in what he says as he says it with what appears a natural self belief. Ming doesn't come across that way... |

but surely this taxation is regressive? these lifestyle or "green" taxes make no account of anyones ability to pay. It is the poor, not the rich, who will be forced out of flying and enjoying the world or driving the car they've always dreamed of. i havent the slightest clue how anyone purporting to call themselves a liberal could support such policies, unless, perhaps, adherence to the fanatical religion of global warming has completely clouded the mind of all reason |

That they're already largely kept from these luxuries notwithstanding, carbon usage correlates with wealth (as one would imagine). |
