How does one succeed so well in the political arena and suck so bad at speaking and intellectual discourse? Is he a good representation of his political supporters?

Bush displays no mannerisms typical of the idiot savant. He seems very aware of the effect he has on people. He is confident.

Many people, when they arrive at a position of great authority or celebrity, begin to think, unconsciously, that the ordinary rules of life simply don't apply to them. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

He seems genuinely puzzled that anyone or any party could disagree with his stand on torture.

Bush may not be the world'ss greatest wordsmith, but he uses that to his political advantage. He appeals to the common man because the common man thinks he's one of them, but he is not an idiot by any means and is quite intellegent.

That was always my analysis. That it is intentional.

So... Bush is a common man ... trying to run one of the most successful countries in the world fight a religious war with people who are willing to kill themselves to kill us....

Well thats the reason why were up to our knees in troubles.

Seems like your starting to realize what I knew back in 2001...

I would consider myself common, but he doesn't appeal to me. I'd like some facts that point to him being intelligent. I'm not calling him an idiot, but I hesitate to call him intellegent.

I guess he does appeal to the average man. His political machine is very intelligent, but I don't think he is. I believe he is average to lower intelligences as indicated by his speaking and his regular talking. Speaking isn't easy for a lot of people, but he screws up in ways that show that he isn't the brightest star in the sky. He has some heavy hitters backing him up. He is more in line with say a used car salesmen. He knows enough to sell and persuade people. Some of the greatest salesmen aren't intelligent.

Republicans always seem to be charaicatured as idiots or the most maniacal spinsters. They are neither. Let me be clear, I do not like Bush's policies, but he does know what he is doing and he acts this way on purpose.

Whatever. If you took the term "idiot" on PCF, I guarantee the word liberal will come up in most of sentences. Well, maybe Bush first, but most people can differeante between Bush, and republicans in general. No one is calling Republicans "idiots".

A rather subjective analysis. Anything that goes against your grain should be 'locked'. We have agreed that Bush is not stupid, but then, neither is Kerry.

Acting dumb on purpose is hardly a political tactic ive heard of... Unfortunatly its not true. There have been several times that he yas acted dumb in private but was cought on tape... Like the 'Yo Blair" incident.

Still think hes faking?

I view a lot of Republicans as very intelligent in my personal life as well as some in the political arena. Newt Gingrich is intelligent and a perfect example of an intelligent republican.

It is rather hypocritical to call someone intellectually deprived when one can only think in terms of right vs left.

Bush isn't contemplative, or introspective. On a general knowledge IQ test he probably would score highly, and he does know how to manipulate people. It's his judgment that is suspect.

By the time most people get to sixty years of age, they already know that both Russia and China are big. When presented with this information, it doesn't come as a great shock to them. Thanks to Tony Blair leaving his microphone on, we can hear Bush's voice and the childlike sense of wonder in it when he tells Tony "Russia and China are big!".

It's not like this is the only time he did this either. In brazil;, when shown a map of Brazil in relation to the rest of the continent, George said "Brazil is big!". That was in public. So in both public and private, George behaves like a third grader when presented with basic information.

He really is like an eight year old. "Is Russia a big or a small country, Johnny? And how about China?"

When asked a two-part question, he can never remember the second part when he's finished the first*. He even told journalists at one of his first press conferences not to ask two-part questions.

*Although I'm prepared to accept that this is the result of the drug/alcohol blitzkrieg that was happening in George's head in the 1970s and 80s.

Even post-blitzkrieg, however, even a below average intelligence person would still remember that Russia and China are both big.

Picky, picky. Most people can't find Brazil on the map. Nobody ever questions me, except my wife, but if they did I would already have forgotten the second part by the time the total question was asked. Tell me quick: Where's Titticacca?

It's a lake, not a country, NN. Where's the Isle of Langerhorns? In your ear, NN. You flunked...
