In my opinion, this is going to kill the US economy faster than anything else going right now. It's likely to both push up interest rates and push down the dollar. This should be the top issue in this Fall's election (IMO):
Quote:
U.S. Current-Account Gap Widened to $218.4 Billion
By Joe Richter
Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. current-account deficit widened more than forecast last quarter to the second-largest on record as the trade gap expanded and more interest was paid to overseas investors, a government report showed.
The $218.4 billion shortfall in the current account, the broadest measure of trade because it includes transfer payments and investment income, followed a revised $213.2 billion first- quarter gap that was larger than initially reported, the Commerce Department said today in Washington.
The growing deficit poses a risk to the economy should investors sour on U.S. assets and diversify to other countries because it may weaken the dollar and push interest rates higher....

Well that would push up energy prices. So all the people invested in that sector will have more money to spend. |

Be sure to buy stock in energy companies and big contractors, and you'll do OK... |

| Its only money, and the money is only paper, and the paper is only numbers. It is all meaningless without faith, and the the faith is meaningless without the fear of what might happen if the faith don't keep. As long as the government lasts the currency is tender for all debts. Even if they start carting it around in baskets to pay rent, the guy with debts (which is everyone) will still be in good shape. |

I think death is sexy too. Makes even the blackest people white and gives them a winning smile without brushin theys teeths. God, I love death! Who can get enough of the smell of rotten meat that used to be living human beings? |

Come on, the US gov't like many other gov'ts practice Enron style accounting, so dont worry about little miniscule account depts trying to audit them, these depts wont bite the hand that feeds them.
Hey if the deficeit is running high, lets break some new records, I say SPEND SPEND SPEND, hahahahahahahahahaha. |
