Well done, Canada.
And of course, well done to Poland for pulling their deployment forward, as announced a few days ago.
But this still leaves NATO short of 2,000 troops in the short term, 1,000 troops in the long term. |

I can't tell if that's a sarcastic joke with all the mis-spellings, or if it's for real? |

There are some that are against the war, but you get that with every war. I think it's best to pick your fights carefully, and then fight to win.
CTV has Craig Oliver talking about it like Canada is using antiques and the Taliban are using state of the art weapons:

Canada upgraded the Leopards to C2s. So, they're not that bad, but hey, if he disagrees, why not spend $500 million on 100 or so Abrams? The government just announced $15 billion in spending on new equipment, which includes about $8 billion on new planes, and days after that, they announced an additional $500 million for new UAVs. So, the cost of new tanks would be relatively inexpensive.
Canadian tanks:
Sorry, wrong pic.
It's fine if someone is anti-war. Diversity of opinion is an important part of democracy. However, I put more stock in the armed forces than Oliver. |

| I have had some very good experiences with the canadian forces over the years, but I thought that their govt. was almost ready to cut and run. That would have been very detremental to their fight on the WOT. But I am glad to see another nation with heart ang guts. :-D |

Craig Oliver is messed up, The Taliban is winning and so forth, too many spiders in his head argueing, nice to hide behind soldiers that are fighting for you and critize them, dare I say, Colenol Jessup off of___________.
2000 troops, geez, for all the military in the world 2000 troops is hard to come by, what a joke, back in the old days, whole divisions would be sent out, now we are squandering for 2000 troops. Kind of reminds me of Germany in 1945 when the americans crossed the Rhine and the once powerful armoured army of Germany had 7 tanks in a barn that were going under maintenance and would be ready for action in 3 days. Let you guys figure that one out. |

I kind figure that with technology and there being what is called downsizing, 2000 troops is a hard thing to come by for many nations. |

Yes indeed, but lets also 'big up' Poland too. You really would have thought one of the powerful Western European countries with money to burn and cutting edge technology for their military would have come forth with an offer of reinforcements but no.... shame on them!! |

Not to denigrate what Poland has offered, but the 1,000 troops they have offered to send (next February) is in fact the same deployment they were to make later in the year, it's just the deployment has been brought forward a few months. And the Poles will not be deployed in the south. However, we must be thankful for whatever troops are offered up - it's time now for other NATO members to make good. |

The rich countries already have loads of troops in quite areas, but could easily send existing troops but they won't. |

i figure some (not all) of the rich countries are not doing much if anything is beacause they have some notion of appeasement (carter syndrome) that will keep them from getting their happy asses wacked. The politocians are also concerned about their jobs and they are not going to step up to the plate as easily.
Poland is a damn good and tough nation that has had its fair share of bad guys over the last 5 decades. |
