Women seem (as a generalisation) to have proportionately bigger arses than men- Infact they might even have bigger arses than men full stop despite obviously being shorter and smaller built. and note when i am referring to a bigger arse i'm meaning it in all 3 dimensions such as width, vertical length and pertness (as in how far back it juts out from her back). Men butts generally tend to not really be much wider than their waist and also tend to be flatter- they dont really extend out backwards from their back much,if at all whereas womens do, even if the women is quite slim or skinn even. Quite frankly it wouldnt surprise me if the average womens arse accounted of around 20 percent of her overall body mass whereas for men it wouldn t surprise me if it was as low as 10 percent.

Fairly often I notice (say when i walk down the street for instance) that you could have a couple walking along. the man is may be like 6 foot+ or something and the women will be like 5' 5" or even less maybe and the man will definitely have a bigger build as men tend to do. However the womens butt will be the same size as the mans and in many cases even bigger (in all 3 dimensions usually).

Is this something to do with the whole women having babies thing and hence needing more space in that general area or is it just the way women were designed by god/nature for mens satisfaction (or whatever you believe in)??
And yeah before someone calls me on it i'm quite a big arse fan. Yep i know quite pervy but i'm an adolescent boy- you wouldnt expect any thing else!!

Your guess is right - mechanics of having babies mean a womans pelvis is designed different to men's

Also a womans pelvis softens and seperates during the actual birth process.

Hence the old saying - child bearing hips

The hips design is a part of it.

I think there is a greater propensity for women to put down fat reserves generally -- perhaps because men were hunting and gathering, and so it was less likely they would have to wait for a meal, whereas women would probably be back at the camp, doing other kinds of work, and so would have to wait. Totally ignorant view, of course.

That may have been true in the past, but most of the men at my workplace seem have a propensity for putting down ample fat reserves.

Getting that way over here as well. That's an issue of a society that is more and more sedentary. Nevertheless, I imagine it's still easier for women to put on weight than it is for men.

so appleyard your saying women put weight on easier than men- hence why they are chunkier in certain areas.
what makes women put on weight easier. is it a biological thing or a lifestyle thing??

Both. And the initial reason why women have more fat reserves was because of breast feeding infants. :? It really had nothing to do with sitting around camp waiting to have food brought to them.

Hey, I said it was an ignorant opinion, although I wasn't saying it was because they were just sat about, more that they might have to wait longer periods before eating. Ta for the info though.

Women have to support an entire seperate body for 9 months (sometimes two or more bodies) plus breast feeding, that might be another explanation for their propensity towards higher fat deposits than men.

And the other thing that helps as well. Men's deep interest in those fat deposits.

This means a woman had a chance of choosing a strong mate to help pass her genes down.

There was a fabulous doco on a few years ago talking about the shape of womens bodies. They found that it is the ratio between the different elements of a womans anatomy rather than the actual size of the woman that men find attractive

Meaning no matter if a woman is a size 6 or 22 - they will be attractive if the ratio is maintained in her figure

Combination. It does have to do with the different shape of the pelvis to accomodate a baby's head. It also has to do with what men like. There are racial differences in butt shape.

Women need more fat at certain times, namely pregnancy and nursing. In fact, if a woman gets below a certain amount of body fat, her hormones go haywire, and they can even stop menstruating.
