Is the media biased?
Please state your answer without favoring one particular side. |

its as fair as we are gonna get.
The open forums IMHO favor the liberal side of things but were still talking about TV. What on TV isnt liberal?
either way i think it is more balanced then any other source because its just footage of government in progress, or meetings and clips of government in action. The kind of stuff that will put you to sleep in a heart beat. |

C-Span

I don't have time to watch C-Span regularly, but there are many meetings I am interested in observing. I don't receive four channels, though. Maybe you're on of the lucky ones who do?
BTW, have you ever actually watched C-Span? Did you notice that it shows reruns of Congressional hearings? |

Fox News
the network that brought us Married with children and the Simpson’s
Fox news favors the conservative side, not that it is conservative itself. Geraldo strapping himself to a tree in a hurricane to bring us the breaking news doesnt sound very conservative, however Bill screaming "SHUT UP" is, either way were still talking about TV were the game is selling you cars and penis pills. Yea that sounds conservative. |

C-Span
Is C-span fair and balanced?
C-Span isn't really a news source, though I agree that the information they provide is generally fair and balanced moreso than mainstream news. Mostly, they just provide actual coverage of events without interpretation, which means they don't even have much of an ability to provide spin.
Oh, and also, they do more than just footage of Congress. Sometimes, they publish other events and discussion groups. Their discussion groups are interesting to watch because they apparently don't filter callers to the same extent as mainstream news agencies. As a result, they tend to up with a lot of crazy people calling in -- making racist claims, conspiracy theories, or practical jokes -- all of which are hilarious. |

| I think C-Span is pretty unbiased. The other channels are quite biased although i don't know that I would call it a liberal bias. Fox, ABC, CNN, NBC etc are all biased in favor of the two party system, corporations, and a sort of corporate centrism that is disgusting to liberals and conservatives alike. |

The media, in general, is socially liberal because that gets them the most ratings. I.E., socially conservative media about Jesus, proper moral conduct, etc, is f***ing boring. But gay, interracial Islamic midgets having unprotected sex out of wed-lock while doped up on heroin is guaranteed to give their ratings a boost.
In terms of economics, journalists themselves tend to be liberals because journalism is a part of the humanities, and the hippie mindset among journalists of "wanting to change the world," is primarily held by liberals. However, obviously, the corporations favor capitalism and the corporations are the ones with ultimate control over content.
So, while there may be an extraordinary amount of cases of anecdotal evidence of liberal bias, the media overall is libertarian. By that, I don't mean in favor of the libertarian party, but simply in support of libertarian ideals of social liberalism and capitalism. |

I don't necessarily agree with the 'hippie journalist' idea - I think that died out in the '70's - but good points.
I think PBS still makes some good attempts at what used to be standard good/investigative journalism. |

I don't either. They are the channels that you get if you pay more money, including 100 shopping channels and geek TV. |

Everything is left of Lennon compared to this administration. :gdgf: Since the shift right has grown so extreme, what used to be moderate/centrist even appears left now.
Perspective is everything. Don't get lost in the woods; there are baaad people picking up your breadcrumbs trail. :) |

You might be right, but today's extreme right is still much closer to center the the extreme left ever has been or ever will be. You are basing your ASSumtion on the past few years, go back a tad further in time. The liberal love fest of the '90's. |
