Democrats to roll out plan to curtail abortions

WASHINGTON -- Reaching out to more moderate, churchgoing voters with misgivings about abortion, House Democrats plan to unveil legislation on Thursday that sets a public policy goal of reducing abortions in America.

The proposal, to be announced at a news conference attended by the House Democrats' national campaign chairman, Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, would not restrict access to abortion. Instead, it promotes such preventive measures as funding for contraceptives and expanded sex education geared toward avoiding pregnancy as well as support for adoption and services to new mothers, according to several people familiar with the legislation.

As the GOP falls to peices Democrats are on the move to reframe the abortion debate. Thats right its not just about keeping it legal for women to have the power to make their own decision with regard to abortion and THEIR OWN BODIES but also about reducing abortions through means that actually work.

No whiny cries about banning this type or that type...just good solid science and FUNDING that will allow women poor and rich alike to decide what happens to their bodies. Want contraception? The Dems will see that you get it... more then can be said for many on the right who see even this as abortion. Yup its good the GOP is imploding as it means sanity can once again come to the debate...

Sounds like more feel good legislation from the left. When this plan refers to sex education to avoid pregnancy, is it the same plan of masturbation introduced by Joycelyn Elders? Is masturbation really a preventative measure for unwanted pregnancy?

Since your link doesn't refer to this issue I can only speculate as to what scheme democrats are implementing now.

If democrats think abortion is ok and that a woman has the right to do with her body as she wishes why are they touring to reduce abortions? Whats wrong with having as many as women want? Are democrats implicitly agreeing that abortion is wrong?

Sounds like common sense, no one wants more abortions, the same measures work in other countries to reduce abortions, why would someone who ostenibly wants to save lives not want to save lives? Oh thats right they sinned and had sex so they must be punished.

Can you explain the reasons you'd like to see fewer abortions?

hahaha if sanity means allowing hundreds of thousands of innocent humans to die then i guess you're right. Because in alot of cases when the fetus is borted it is human, thus they are allowing humans to be killed.

If abortion is wrong, why do Democrats continue to support it's legality?

At best you could say they are selling out their constituency in hope of picking up a few votes.

Simply because they are our descendants, as a species to be succesful we should procreate, so I don't think abortion is a good thing. I also have deep instinctual drives to protect my young, so i don't think abortion is a good thing. I also don't think an embryo/fetus is of equivalent value to a fully functioning adult, an adult also may have many children, so abortion is not necessarily evil unless it is perverted in some way.

Easily. It's much easier and healthier and cheaper for a woman to be on birth control. I haven't checked whether my insurance company covers abortions, but even if it did, I'd much rather take a Depo shot every 12 weeks (which I know is covered) than to have to figure out every time I have sex, whether I got pregnant, then do something about it.

Prevention is always better.
