Would you people stop talking so much about Osama, Israel, Afghanistan, and the mess in Iraq...it's about time for a new war

Does anyone see any signs this administration has learned anything in the past 5 years?

US cites Iran, Syria as 'worrisome' threats

White House thinks Osama bin Laden's network 'significantly degraded but still dangerous'.

By Olivier Knox – WASHINGTON
The White House on Tuesday branded Iran and Syria "especially worrisome" threats as it unveiled a reworked anti-terrorism plan that downplayed the impact of the Iraq war and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The 23-page US "National Strategy for Combating Terrorism" came out one week before the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks and two months before November legislative elections overshadowed by the unpopular Iraq war.

The blueprint warned that the United States is "not yet safe" and that the topmost priority is keeping weapons of mass destruction (WMD) out of the hands of terrorist groups that are constantly adapting to thwart US defenses.

"Our greatest and gravest concern," the White House said, "is WMD in the hands of terrorists. Preventing their acquisition and the dire consequences of their use is a key priority of this strategy."

"Most troubling is the potential WMD-terrorism nexus that emanates from Tehran. Syria also is a significant state sponsor of terrorism and thus a priority for concern," the report said.

Osama bin Laden's network, which carried out the September 11 attacks, is "significantly degraded but still dangerous" and serves as the "vanguard" of loosely connected extremists linked by ideology, the report said.

"Bin Laden remains the number one target in terms of our efforts, but he's not the only target," Bush's homeland security and counterterrorism adviser, Frances Townsend, told reporters.

The document, which offered no new policies for fighting terrorism, said Washington would seek to isolate state sponsors of extremist violence and warned that "Iranian and Syrian terrorist activities are especially worrisome."

"Iran remains the most active state sponsor of international terrorism," said the report, which was released as US President George W. Bush was to make the second in a series of speeches on the war on terrorism.

"Through its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Ministry of Intelligence and Security, the regime in Tehran plans terrorist operations and supports groups such as Lebanese Hezbollah, Hamas, and Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

"Iran also remains unwilling to account for and bring to justice senior Al-Qaeda members it detained in 2003," it said.

"Syria also is a significant state sponsor of terrorism and thus a priority for concern. The regime in Damascus supports and provides haven to Hezbollah, Hamas, and PIJ. We will continue to stand with the people of Iran and Syria against the regimes that oppress them at home and sponsor terror abroad," it said.

Amid the soaring price tag and rising death toll in Iraq and uncertainty about US efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict, the report downplayed the impact of both crises as sources of anger that fuels extremist violence.

"Terrorism is not simply a result of hostility to US policy in Iraq," it said. "Terrorism is not simply a result of Israeli-Palestinian issues."

In each case, the White House said that Al-Qaeda had plotted the September 11 attacks in the 1990s, during an "active period" in Middle East peace talks and well before the March 2003 invasion of Iraq.

However, the report also acknowledged that "the ongoing fight for freedom in Iraq has been twisted by terrorist propaganda as a rallying cry."

Democrats fired back at what they described as the political motivations for the report, with Senator John Kerry, Bush's 2004 rival for the White House, calling it "a laundry list of objectives to get them through the next news cycle or the next election."
The report "does nothing to kill Osama bin Laden or clean up the disastrous policy in Iraq that has fanned the flames of terror," Kerry said in a statement sent by electronic mail by a spokesman.

Well, yeah, unfortunately, they've learned what they're doing works and that they don't need to change it anytime soon.

I f Iran keep it up they are going to get nailed and apparently they do not care. It makes people think here we have another looney toon just like Saddam that think he can do what he wants and create instability in the region. If push come to shove the lives of millions will be on his hands and their blood as well. Before he gets the nuke toy stop him.

If it all comes down to it. just end the problem that seems to keep festering over there. If they are so dumb and stuck on stupid to attack Israel or a neighbor they will end up removed by a nuke. I do not think this guy realizes just what he is about to have unloaded upon him.

The world is not going to stand by and allow this nut case to have a nuke considering that they foster and harbor terrorists and actively promote it, so in the end they might just get it. :-|

To watch Bush and Condoleeza trot out the old lies in the face of new evidence, I would say they have not learned anything. Is this not what was said of the Bourbon kings of France, that they forgot nothing and learned nothing?
Let me offer my international plan for combating terrorism: Democracy at home, and friends abroad. This country has only had one export which did not ruin every other country's economy; and that was the notions of democracy, freedom, justice, and equity. Since that table has been turned upon us we have only the export of arms which those who buy hope to turn into a defense against us. Without Democracy here we have nothing the world wants, and only want ourselves all the world possesses.

Too many people in this world look at us as the nut case, and resent our use of force, and the threat of destruction to get our way. I would bet that many would wear a thermo nuclear suicide vest into the heart of America for the pleasure of setting it off. Of course, we would respond like a Gorilla swatting at bees, as we do today mostly hitting air. And we would react as we did to Katrina, and promise to rebuild. But will we admit we might need counseling? I doubt it. Something about looking stupid in front of the whole world we take as our moment of destiny. Huraa!

They have most Americans scared enough that nothing's really been done about them wiretapping without a warrant. It's working well enough for them.

Maybe they do lokk at us that way but right now the danger is this man and what he is doing. No one would want a nuke dropped on him. I am only saying that he is following the very same path as Saddam and with the world demanding him to comply with inspections and to prove his honest intent he seems to be refusing. That coupled with his support of several different terrorist outfits does not make the world look at him as a rather rational person. If it all comes to push and shove he will lose and lose big. All he has to do is get his hands on one Nuke and if he starts threatening his neighbors he is liable to get taken out. Hos arrogance is pretty obvious and all and in the end I hope he thinks about what he is doing and shows the world that he means no harm to Israel or anyone else. If he can do that I would then have no problem with him, but right now he is tipping the scales and it is not looking to good. :-|

I have an idea for a strategy to combat terrorism:

Let's just leave Iran alone, that might work.

They want to rule us by fear the way we have ruled the world, and many in the world do not like it, and it has ruined our good name -upon which many produces are sold abroad; and many of them are unwilling to accept it, or us, anymore. Bush cries about fascist, but to them we are the fascists, and fascists with a huge military and intelligence complex. I think most Americans look around at each other and wonder why they hate us. I look at my government and wonder why they fear us. It is us who should fear the government. We set great value on our unborn and little white rich kids; but I promise you this. If our Government is willing to plan and participate in the death of innocents abroad they will do so here. Let them think of you as an impediment and your days are numbered. Spying on you -that they make you accept by the manipulation of your fear -is only the beginning. If you show fear they will know they can have you. If you fold to fear you are theirs. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, and we will be free only so long as we can be brave. I hope when push comes to shove we can at least manage the freedom and bravery of the Iraqis. Until that time I only fear fear mongers.

Yes, this man is sincere, in his support of Islam and in his defense of Islam and Iran in other countries that pose a threat to Iran. What many of them understand that we do not, is that we are flailing about like a dying giant, still dangerous, sometimes deadly, and unredeemed even in the agony of death. Many of those people have been here, and studied here. They know our defective morality, and understand our defective economy that has s*cked the strength and vitality out of this land and people. They may even recognize in our fundamentalism as we might recognize in theirs -an attempt to recapture a storied and honorable past. If any land in the world of Islam should be our friends, and could be our friends it is Iran. They do not want to fight us, they want to be us; that is, us without all the mindless avarice for oil, and the sex, sex, sex, sex, sex. How do nuke a bunch of people whose biggest thrill is to load up the kids and Ma to drive downtown and show off the car, and their affluence on the strip, whose kids are making secret dates on cell phones, and whose daughters are a getting nose jobs to look like us? It is inconceivable. We should be talking to these people. We have them scared, and fear makes them ugly; but they do not want to fight us. Yet, I am convinced the administration will find an excuse to start a war with them. Iraq will drag on, but that war is essentially over. Syria, like Lebanon will have to be neutralized. But the goal is Iran. I do not blame them for getting ready to fight. They better be ready. Hell is in the mail.
