Quote: "They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet… in thrall to conniving, thieving, smug pricks."

Apparently, that is what he said.
I took the quote from a thread which has now been locked but, I just had to relate this short story.

My girlfriend works in a factory and she recently told me a story of a conversation between her fellow workers.

In brief: A guy (in his 40's) actually said that CANADA stole the idea of putting the Queen on their money from England !

The guy was dead serious! He thinks that Canada copied England by putting the picture of the Queen on thier money.

Now if that's not an example of a dumb American, I don't know what would be.

BTW, he's lived 20 minutes away from the border of canada & the usa all his life !

Nah, the thing that bugs me about him is this. OK, america and his home state blow. With his fame and idea's he could easily run for govenor or for the Senate, but instead of tring to fix it he just wails like a stuck walrus about it.

The language may be crude but the message is there for all to see........and he's right. This same quote can be applied to the people of the UK, so complacent in regards to politics that we have allowed our democracy to be hijacked by a nanny state government who has committed unspeakable crimes under our noses to the detriment of our democracy and steered our nation into an unholy alliance with a superpower that kills with impunity.

Accountability of government has gone out of the window, I see incompetence at the highest levels spiralling out of control and the only time they admit anything is wrong is when they are publicly humiliated to action. Our system is not working for our benefit or anyone elses, just for their desires to build legacies of freedom on the corpses of their victims, killed with impunity.

Well, technically, the Canadians did copy the idea from us. We've been putting our picture of the monarch on our money for a lot longer than Canada has even existed, the British settlers and their descendents who founded Canada took this tradition with them. I don't see how this proves this particular american is intellectually deficient..... :?

The one-dollar coin featured bears the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to appear on Canadian coins. This portrait, introduced in 1990, represents a significant milestone in the history of Canadian coinage, as it is the first portrait of the reigning monarch to be designed by a Canadian. In Great Britain, the portrait of the Queen appearing on coins was changed in 1985, when the design of Raphael David Maklouf, FRSA, was adopted. In Canada, however, the Arnold Machin portrait, introduced in 1965, continued in use until 1989. Machin's model was designed in 1963, when the Queen was 37 years old. When seeking a more mature portrait of the Queen, Canadian authorities decided not to use the Maklouf portrait. Instead, they commissioned Dora de Pedery-HUNT, a Toronto artist and sculptor, to design a new one. Her portrait depicts Elizabeth facing right, wearing teardrop earrings and a diamond necklace. The diamonds of the actual necklace, which was originally made for Queen Victoria, weigh 161 carats. The Queen also wears a diamond crown made for George IV. It is decorated with roses, shamrock and thistle, the floral emblems of the United Kingdom. The result is a pleasing, realistic portrait of the Queen. The one-dollar piece depicted is dated 1990; it forms part of the National Currency Collection, Bank of Canada.

What's the real scoop here Richard or was the guy just some dumb American?

The Queen of England is technically also the Queen of Canada:

Quote: Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor) (born 21 April 1926) is the Queen of 16 independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth Realms.

These are the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. By the Statute of Westminster 1931, she holds these positions equally; no one nation takes precedence over any other, however, her principal residences are located within the United Kingdom. She is the world's only monarch who is simultaneously Head of State of more than one independent nation, with realms in Europe, North and Central America, the Caribbean, and Oceania. In legal theory she is the most powerful head of state in the world, although in practice she exercises very little executive power personally (especially outside the United Kingdom).

In Richard's defense, if the guy was completely serious about Canadians "stealing" the idea, then he was off base a bit. They may have copied it, but that goes for any number of ex-colonies of the Brits. Stealing has an incorrect connotation.

While America certainly has its share of Darwin Award candidates, can we at least base this on some facts? For example:
Education Percentages for Countries

Even this doesn't tell the whole picture (i.e. quality of education, etc.) but its a heck of a lot better than the "I heard this American said..." argument going on here.

YOUR girlfriend works with these intellectually challenged...what does that say about her... or YOU for having a GF who works with these idiots... aren't YOU smart enough to find someone of greater intellectual capacity????

Human beings in general are pretty stupid. I'm gonna have to go with Einstein on this...
"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
