| Does North Korea have nukes? If they do, who would they nuke first South korea or Japan. I don't think their capable of reaching the US anyway. Just curious. |

if it came down to it they would probably hit japan. south korea has been building their military up for some time now and have the capability to march into pyong yang and raze it the ground. |

| I thought NK had a million man army? I'm not about sure about SK army but the US has 20,000 soldiers stationed their. I'm not sure about the size of the Japanese military, I thought they decided to go the pacifist way after WWII. Anyway I don't see the benefit of nuking Japan. How would that benefit NK? |

north koreas army is a piece of s**t. it is decades away from being anything close to modern and it can hardly feed itself.
japan has something like a 90,000 man militia.

The Japanese military - called the Self-Defence Forces - are very capable:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Self-Defense_Forces
Japan is one of the biggest spenders on defence in the world, although the post-WW2 constitution restricts what the SDF can do.
The ROK military is sizeable:

IMO, DPRK would nuke Japan before ROK. The Koreans hate the Japanese and a warhead delivered into the centre of Tokyo would deliver a lot more 'bang for the buck' than the similar thing on Seoul. Anyway, Seoul could be attacked with more conventional weaponry. |

| They did say that it would only take 30 minutes to invade Seoul by conventional forces. Hmmmm... Maybe they got 2 nukes and then they could hit both capitals. Regardless the US would back Japan and Korea but the Chinese would back NK and then all hell would break loose. I wonder who Russia would back? |

Do you think Russia would back Iran if all hell broke lose. (because the oil trade) And I believe your wrong about China and NK relations, China is their biggest trade partner and almost acts like a big brother towards them, and definetly China would not want the western allies to have a key entry to their border after all North Korea is their buffer to the south. |

Then why do U.S. and Japan government exaggerate N.Korea's nuclear ability ? They just want to built their own military alliance.
Once Japan takes up its backdoor, all Chinese can figure out how much excrement it will make. |

Certainly Japan would be first. More bang for the buck so to speak.
The overstatement of North Korea is to keep it in check. Certainly you can see the basic need strategically, for North Korea to be on the defensive with many eyes always on them? It has nothing to do with military alliances at all - N. Korea has been a loner for decades with nothing to show that this position would change any time soon. The only ally N. Korea has is China.
N. Korea must escalate this situation because basically the U.S. and the U.N. has bottled it up tightly - the only way out is to either capitulate (through attrition) or to escalate. Quite poor planning and strategy on Kim I'm Ill's part... |

| I think U.S.A.'s NMD and TMD don't work. Those systems could not catch one missile launched by N.K. by far. |

This is largely my argument. DPRK does not have enough nuclear weaponry to be of use as a strategic play in an assault, it only has enough to threaten annihilation if it feels its back is against the wall. To that end, it would then make the most sense for it to threaten Seoul, since they can be most easily pressured into getting concessions. A strike on Seoul would make most sense first. With anything left, I suppose a strike on whomever it thought was going to put boots on the ground to occupy the country would be the way to go. Since China might well do that job, a strike on Beijing would make sense, since I doubt either Japan or the U.S. would expend soldiers to take the peninsula. |

I agree - the only fly in the ointment - He might give it to the US troops in South Korea (30,000) I think a go - then the dam North of Seoul. |

| I cant imagine they would ever try and start a war with a single nuclear weapon, I would imagine it would be an opening shot of 4 or 5 at least. If it was a single warhead wouldnt striking into Korea hitting a sizeable portion of the US Korean Deployments and the ROK? |
