|
|
Bethesda, Maryland-based company, Intellipark, has developed an intelligent parking meter. The meter uses Sonar to detect vehicles in space and notify authorities of the location of violators. The meters also block people from exceeding their time limit in a space because they will not allow the driver to add time if the vehicle has not left the space. So, no more feeding the meter every two hours - you'll have to move the car. Not surprising, a lot of cities are interested in the product:

| Yeah, that's true. I guess on the plus side, I might be able to find parking when I go to shopping now, because employees won't be able to park there and feed the meter all day. |

I guess in some areas they really want to enforce the "two hour" limit (or whatever). So they're ordering these new meters. Some places just chalk tires. Most places don't seem to care.
I just thought the article was an interesting example of how pervasive technology will be in regulating people in the future. It would be better if they could invest all this energy into technology to fight more serious crimes. |

It's easier and they get more money from the people that they catch in something like this. The criminal costs them money for court costs and incarceration. |

| Trever was right. What’s wrong with feeding the meter? They are getting their money. In fact, being forced to move the car will likely make them less money, since upon moving, the space will be potentially empty for a while, not making money. It makes no sense to not just let people keep putting money in. “Oh, but it’s not fair, someone could stay there all day, what about other people” Well, sorry, get there earlier. |

| Great, they've found another way to leech money right out of people's pockets. How splendid  |
