Public money should not be going to faith schools, period. They will further segregation along sectarian lines.

Not compleley accurate, it all depends on the intake policy of that school.

Opted out faith based schools have far more control as to the pupils they take in, leading, as you say, to segregation. State funded (whether fully or partially) religous schools generally have to meet intake criteria for their local area.

I attended a Catholic Secondary school, and ended up spending most of my time with a Sikh, Muslim and some Hindus. All of these were excellent friends of mine, and at no time did their beliefs cause a conflict.

I completely accept the point that segregating children during education has the potential to cause divisions later on, however I feel that placing a disproportionate amount of the blame on faith based schools mitigates the responsibility that popular culture and primary socialisation (parenting) play.

I don't believe there should be any faith schools (whether state funded or not), and I didn't even know that there were any Islamic schools within the UK.
