Anyone else see that show on the History Channel? I was a skeptic but damn that guy convinced me.

Stuff to prove the Exodus happened. Maybe some stuff got embellished, but most of the stuff is solid. Very interesting you should really try to see it if you haven't on the History Channel.

Yes I watched it, and he did present a very compelling case. It is truely amazing how that happened in Cameroon, and how all the peices fit together. I had never thought of comparing the Hyksos, and the People of Israel. The only part i though was a little far fetched was how the African plate moved up for the jews and allowed them to cross, but once the jews were safe came down. Perhaps it was a miracle of god.
And you know what is really cool? I know the director and narrator of the program, Simcha jacobovici. I met him when i visited Israel last here. He sat next to me on the plane, and while i was in Jerusalem I saw him 2 more times. He even filmed me! I know someone who has won many awards including two emmy's. Cool huh?? |

Yeah and he had some balls to sneak to the sight where all the evidence pointed to where mount. Sinai is, even though he wasn't allowed by the Egyptian Government. That's TRUE journalism. It makes me laugh a little that it's very possible the true Mount Sinai is in a Egyptian Military zone. Of all the places to test explosives. That's cool you met him. |

The only real problem with the Santorini and Exodus being inter woven is dates
The eruption of Santorini has been set at around 1650BC - There are a number of specific scientific tests that can give very accurate dating for volcanic erruptions.
The Exodus is a little more problomatic - some of the biblical passages suggest dates anywhere from 1440BC Kings 6.1 that says Says work on Solomons temple began 480 years after the Exodus. The construction of the temple is fairly accurately dated around 959BC
However using information in the book of Numbers we get a far more recent date. We know the Israelites encountered settlements in the trans Jordan area, but archelogical evidence suggests these settlements were not there before the 13th Cent BC - Hence a low value of 1290BC seems more supported by external evidence.
Either way the erruption of Santorini appears far to old to be a consideration for either date |

Quote: archaeologists say around 1500, geologists say around 1600
Some recent articles in the April edition of Science suggest archaeologists might starting to look at the eruption being between 1627 and 1600BC. Seems two different carbon 14 tests on some tree material uncovered on the island gave very similar results .
The only problem with that, some ice core samples recovered in Greenland seem to point closer to 1700BC lol |
