So, I was thinking as I read and posted on this forum. As I was thinking I came up with a novel idea, what if we had an official forum?
As was stated in 1 of the threads, many towns are already set up like this (with real forums known as Town Hall Meetings) and wouldn't work beyond the local level.
What I'm proposing is that we don't bite off more then we can chew, but at the same time not stay local (as this would make the point of my proposed experiment moot) but rather localize the effect of the laws spawned by the forum not to a local area and not to a diverse area, but to a regional area like Florida. (I'm Floridian and am only using my state as an example.) If it works it would be copied by other states like the Amber Alert and Adopt a Road programs were leading to the government nationalizing the program leading to a forum with a nation wide effect. If it still worked beyond the region level other nations would copy it until organizations like the EU, NAFTA and UN copied the idea.
This would lead to an effective direct democracy (I'm going back to America now) without destroying the Republican (government type, not party) government.
Now I know this needs work, but I remind everyone that this post is just a topic starter. Please vote and post.

I believe in a direct democracy, and limited democracy. But you should realize by now that the government does not want your opinion, and does not want your interest. There is no good reason why a two hundred year old democracy is still working with the rules that governed it in its childhood. When America had few bridges and mighty rivers and great distances between state and federal government there was some excuse for representative government. That time has passed. But the people who thrive on that power have not passed, and the U.S., rather than becoming more democratic becomes less so every day.
So I would say, be assured that the government is watching all the digitals, so in a sense all these forums are official; and the purpose of this scrutiny is not just to root out terrorists, but to fork the potato of discontent so it does not explode into violence at some point. The government will reform enough to give people hope consistent with their interest in self preservation, and that is the extent of their interests in your thoughts. Good day.

True.

On the other hand (if anyone in power is reading this, read carefully) the US government is sowing the seeds of civil war. Hawai'i is demanding independence. Florida's governor is keeping his oil brother from ruining his state rather then working with him and California just did the unthinkable and has tried to (and I think succeeded in) make(ing) a treaty with the UK, a blunt act of Independence in violation of the Constitution. There are separatist, socialist, communist, Communist (there is a difference) and even Neo-Nazi movements gaining power every day due to the way the government is run. Ether they listen to me and others like me or they will see blood running down every street in a few years when civil war brakes out all over the place and Anarchy issues.

You're already taking a pretty big bite; this sounds an awful lot like a direct democracy, but only those with the internet can participate.

Now it sounds like a direct democracy in the form of a confederacy. If the laws are only implemented on a state level, then how would federal laws be established, and who would operate the federal government?

David Kelly wrote: If it works it would be copied by other states like the Amber Alert and Adopt a Road programs were leading to the government nationalizing the program leading to a forum with a nation wide effect.

There is a huge difference between a national program and a government; the spread of confederation had its shot in 1861, and unfortunately didn't work as well as many hoped.

Direct democracy would fail on a state level; instituting it on a global level would be completely disastrous.

How can you have a direct democracy and a republic?

This idea needs a lot more work than you think... The only form of "effective" direct democracy was ancient Athens, and even then it dissolved into an oligarchy with the nine Archons. Direct democracy would be a system worse than Anarchy.

...?

How, pray tell, did you come to the conclusion that I am a "dictator lover"?

And please respond to my arguments instead of throwing insults around where you have no claims.

Read the other post I make, I do support what I argue, only that post wasn't an argument, just an insult as you stated.

So what was the point of posting it? I have argued against you with my own claims, and now it's your turn to respond to those arguments with more of your own...

That's how debate works.
