Recently, I was issued with my first warning after over 2,700 posts and advised in the PM by which it was delivered...

Quote: If you want to complain about it, feel free to PM an admin

But before I had the chance to do so, I found myself to be suspended.

Now I have issues with that suspension, but I do realise that this is not the time nor the place to air the personal side of things. But having served the time, I wanted to make a suggestion about how suspensions might operate in future.

Please bear in mind that I am no computer expert so what I propose is without knowledge of what it is actually possible to implement.

When you are suspended you are not aware until you try and request a password or you visit the site without logging in and see the word by your posts.

There is no way of contacting anyone from the Board. Thus you have no way of ...

1/ knowing why you were suspended

2/ putting forward a case in your defence

3/ knowing how long you will remain suspended for.

Even on my return to the forum I note that there was no formal notice of the suspension I was given (not that I could have seen it while I was serving my time anyhow  )

I think that if suspension meant that there was such restricted access that the member could only PM the admin team and not post to the board or send or receive PM's from others, then at least they coul be given the reasons and the length of their suspensions, and, most importantly in my book, given the chance to put their side of the story. Moderators are human beings after all and as prone to rest of us to overreact because they are having a bad day or completely misconstrue what was being said. Or perhaps they mistakenly believe you've had more warnings than you actually have.

I know that some would go on to abuse this right, in which case I believe a subsequent ban would be in order.

But for most this would go some way to being made both aware of the reasons for and the length of their suspensions and to right the wrongs of a perceived injustice.

That is my proposal...what say you all :)

Just because you are suspended, does not prevent you from reading the boards. You could have easily emailed a moderator or an admin asking for an explanation.

As I mentioned you can read the boards without logging on. But I do not believe its possible to email a moderator or an admin without an awareness of their private email address.

Not that easy

All suspensions are sent an e-mail with an explanation. If you placed an invalid or non working e-mail in your profile then you won't get the e-mail and we have no other way of contacting you.As pointed out you can still access the forums you just can't log in and post so a link to any moderator or admin will send one of us a message and you can use a valid address for us to reply to.

At present we have an e-mail validater turned on but it doesn't do any good for established accounts.

Actually, I just logged out to try this and it worked.

At the very bottom of the main page there are links and one of them says "Contact Us". You click on that and you get this:

http://www.politicalcrossfire.com/forum/contact_form.php

So you can send an email to the admin if you are having issues accessing your account.

Just an FYI there.
