It's an old story from the Scotsman - well, from June. I'd seen the state funeral aspect alluded to in a comment piece this week; must admit, I'd missed this talk back in June although I know it's been discussed for some time in senior levels of government.
So - should Lady Thatcher be given a state funeral (once having passed away, of course)
IMO I think she should not. Mrs T is like Marmite - you love her or you hate her. If you look at Churchill, the reason he got the state funeral in 1965 was down to WW2. No-one would quibble with his status from 39-45, no matter what he did previous or prior to the conflict.
I think a state occasion for Lady T's death would be incredibly divisive and would be inimical, ironically, to the act of remembrance for someone who was a great Prime Minister. |

I agree with Dswain but unlike him I would not consider her a great prime-minister Good maybe Great No |

I want a state funeral where all the people she f'ked can kick her stinking corpse.
Everyone on the housing waiting lists because of the privatisation fetish she had for example would be invited.
In the evening we could all gather around the funeral pyre, sorry, BonFire, and remember Maddie Thatch fondly
Toasting marshmallows on the only bit of warmth she's ever going to put out.
GRRRRR.... |

A prime example of the sheer hatred that Maggie instills in some people - for this reason I'd say no.
On the other hand, thanks to her reforms Britain has less financial problems than other post-colonial EU countries... |

Maybe Mark T could take the lead, unless he sees fit to try to overthrow some government or other.....
Of course, he'd have to find the funeral as well. |

| Omgs not that b****, she ought to be catapulted into her grave with a trebuchet and then urinated upon before they pile in the dirt. |

| I liked some of her economic policy, but I don't think anyone should have a state funded funeral. |
