Your choice is having sex. Once you make that choice, there is opportunity for a new life to be created via it's natural mechanism, conception. Once conception has occurred you have created a new human being deserving of the respect and love we should share for all life.
An abortion is an act of violence against an unborn human being. The victim of this crime can not comprehend what is happening to them as you or I can, but a unique individual is being robbed of their entire existence. What difference does it make how much an embryo can feel or think? This embryo has been proved to grow into unique human beings every time. If you kill someone in their sleep are you not killing them? They didn't think about it or feel it before they got a bullet in their brain. There is no difference in abortion, our inability to see this human or feel it's effect on our lives does not mean this human does not exist. We know it to exist, now it's past time we feel compassion for these immature and innocent human beings.
An unborn child has no choice in being created or continuing to live. You had a choice in creating that human life, now you must live with the consequences of your choice, IMHO. |

Reply #1) That is good, but what about the lady who did not make the choice of having sex?
Reply #2) You have another choice. It is called "The Morning After" pill. Choose, and choose wisely. |

#1) Rape covers something like 1% of all abortions. The issue is mainly brought up to derail threads from the sound logic against lifestyle abortions. If you care to discuss the topic, there are threads that deal specifically with it. I have stated and defended my views on those threads and will leave the topic there.
#2) The morning after pill has a chance of killing the already conceived human being, therefor it should not be used. Birth control pills harden the uterus lining and prevent implantation of a pre-existing human zygote, therefor they too are an act of violence and are wrong, IMO. |

Response to reply #1:
Let them have abortions if they charge rape against the man. Rapes are a very small proportion of the number of abortions. THe other argument is that the child shouldn't be punished for the acts of their father.
Response to reply #2:
The morning after pill doesn't always work, either. A friend of my wife had a condom break when she was having intercourse with her boyfriend. The next morning she got the "morning after" pill. Approximately 9 months later, she bore her baby (a beautiful little girl). |

The morning after pills, (Plan B), cannot kill a blastocyst that has implanted, and it's not known if it would disturb a fertilized egg, or prevent it from implanting (It's really hard to keep lights, microscopes and camcorders in there for a week). It also hasn't demonstrated any harm to babies that have been exposed to it (mothers that didn't know they were pregnant and took it, for example, or as in perdidochas example above). You may be confusing this with RU-486, (Mifepristone), which is an abortificant.
You appear to consider a fertilized egg a human being, even before implantation. By your definition, all women of childbearing age have likely been "pregnant" dozens of times, when an egg has been fertilized but not implanted. No one counts these as pregnancy or we'd all be walking around saying "I birthed 2 children, had one miscarriage, and 21 human beings discharged before implantation; because my immune system killed them before they could encapsulate during implantation." (..those evil female bodies)
Here are two human beings, according to you (Left: fertilized egg; Right: implanting blastocyst):
Size: smaller than Roosevelt’s eye on the face of a US dime.
These should really have the same legal rights and status that real people do?
An abortion is a premature stoppage of a pregnancy; a pregnancy is defined as an implanted blastocyst. Anything that does not interfere with pregnancy, is not an abortificant. Calling any stage of fertilization before pregnancy a human being is fantastical. It's like calling a single thread a king-sized comforter; related, yes - the same, no.
Regular birth control pills do not 'harden the uterus lining' (where are you getting this info from - evangalist Randy Alcorn?) - that's not how they work. You could possibly achieve some hardening of the uterine lining if you were to take high doses of just estrogen within a very short time period, but that has nothing to do with normal birth control pills.
You have every right to your views, even if you want to try to make them law to impose them on others - but let's be accurate on the science. |
