I am seeking a new hard drive.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136029
That is what I am currently looking at.
I want either 320GB, or 400GB. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you can spot any hot deals, let me know. |

| I just bought that hard drive in the 160gig version. It's fantastic. Best Buy has them for pretty cheap this week I do believe. |

Just a thought...... I bought one of these recently on ebay.

Popped in my own hard drive and got much more than just an external hard drive, although it works great as that too. It is a little more money, but being able to plug it into your home theater and have a nice MP3 player / divx player is pretty sweet. It is hard to tell the Divx movies from DVDs. |

Neat. Pair that with this bad boy, and you've got a winner. I need a new computer so bad; that Seagate is the shiznit-o-bam, but I don't want to buy another parallel drive. Perpendicular technology is sweet.
ETA: though, looking that over, it's apparently using parallel technology. |

| It is indeed parallel. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148139 this would fit the bill quite well. |

Best Buy's website doesn't even list WD as a harddrive manufacturer in which they carry. |

Indeed; but I have had this visceral loathing of parallel for a long time. As soon as SATA came out, I felt vindicated and immediately promised myself to "never again" suffer the indignity that is those damned parallel cables. :P
Sadly, however, my current PC, which I built in '01, only has parallel. This is preventing me from buying new storage. Argh. Was is with those SATA controller card prices? |

I just got a 500GB one to pair with my Macbook Pro. I do some serious audio recording and editing, so the 7200RPM, massive drive was a nice plus for my 100GB 5400RPM internal. The problem is that I am unsure about how I should partition, since I plan to backup my existing HDD and want some FAT32 for connection with Windows. I do know that I'm going to do a 32GB partition for FAT32 since Windows can't handle anything more, but I'm inexperienced with backups, so I don't know how large to go. I also don't know what backup app to use, being that the one that came with is for windows only. Any suggestions?
As for deals... I paid 259.99$ free shipping for mine from newegg.com, they are quick and cheap. The usual for it is about 330$ so I made out great. I say stick with newegg, but if you see anything better jump on it before week's end. |

Its not that Windows can't handle anymore (I have a 200 gig FAT32 partition on my external drive) its that Microsft intentionally crippled the formatter so that you can't create a partition greater than that in an attempt to force people to migrate to NTFS. |

Well I was originally planning to format in Windows... but I did change my mind...
I ended up doing this...
20GB for FAT32
45.67GB for HFS+ for Backups
400GB HFS+ for Storage and Audio/Video Editing
With FireWire 400 connection, it's fast as hell. Only thing that would be better is if my lappy had FW800, but I didn't want the bulk of the 17" Macbook Pro... :P
Not to mention people have been getting along great with FW400 for ages. More than enough for all my audio work, and the minimal video work I do. :D |

Possible, but it could also be your BIOS won't recognize one any larger. |

Found it on another forum. I agree, I think its a typo as well. I would like to hear a story of someone being s*cked into paying 18000 dollars for a HD that shouldn't sell for any more than a hundred. |
