Not knowing much about computers, and especially not about hardware specs, what do you all make of this hard drive?

Nice price for such a large drive, but I have one question - does anyone -really- need 300 gigs of space for a home computer? I have 120, and have managed to fill up maybe 30 of that with my games, save, and music, as well as the software for my digicam, mouse, controller, and psp.

I have already filled up my 200GB hard drive, and I haven't had this computer for a year yet. So yes, some people do need that much space. :-D Besides, logics says to buy the biggest one I am willing to pay for, so I won't at some point find myself having filled a 100GB one with some stuff left to put there. I set my limit at $100, and this is the biggest I can buy with that.

Also, as soon as I get a video camera I'm planning on doing a lot of stuff with video, and video is BIG.

Same here. My porno/music/movie collections are growing exponentially, and I need more space to accomodate them. I've been eyeing that 750 Gig by Seagate, but I don't know if I want to get in that much debt atm.

 I have you beat. I have 2.7 TB at home across 3 computers.

FWIW that looks like a very nice drive if your computer can support SATA2. Make sure it can before you buy.

Also, Seagate drives tend to run a little on the hot side. Make sure your computer has good ventilation and cooling.

I collect a lot of music and do a lot of video editing and music production stuff, and my 420 gb of space is not even close to enough storage for me....

That said, yeah that hard drive looks pretty solid. Customer reviews don't mean sh!t either, make sure you get a review from a professional hard drive review company because user reviews tend to be disproportionately negative, especially for hard drives.

Yeah, I opened it up the other day to make sure. That would definitely suck to buy a hard drive and then not be able to use it.

Okay. Thanks.
