I need to write a firefox plugin. However, it requires the use of a server. Aside from dabbling in PHP, I've never really done server programming or XUL. I'm sure I can figure out XUL (though understanding the DOM will be a pain), but I have no clue on how to implement the server. FYI, the client-server info is being sent only one way, from the client to the server.

The info being sent is simply just statistics for a person's nation on Cybernations.net. The idea is to create a Cybernations bar, rather than having to tediously go through CN's links. The nation tracker would also rip the person's stats from the DOM, then save them to a file. It would also send those same statistics (but no personal info) to a central server, so that, with that large collection of daily statistics, I could use statistical analysis to reverse-engineer the game's mechanics.

Anyway, I have several questions:

#1. What server system \ language should I use?
#2. Should I just post to a PHP file and then have the PHP file read the posted data, almost as if it were just a form being submitted?
#3. Should I use my old shi**y Linux PC, my fairly decent and new Windows PC, or my webspace's server online?
#4. Is it unsafe to use a home PC as a server?
#5. I'd like to prevent people from cracking my plugin to stop the data from being collected by the server. How would I do that? Firefox's XUL plugins are not compiled, as you might know. I know there's no such thing as "perfect security," but the idea is that, if I set it up so that the only person who could crack it is if of equal or greater programming ability as me, then he has little incentive to crack it because he could've just written the program himself.

Nvm. I got the info I need. Anymore suggestions would be helpful, however.
