I glanced through Godless: the Church of Liberalism by Ann Coulter at the book store today and glanced through it. On page 3, she had a footnote, saying that she often uses the word "Christian," throughout the book, but her definition of "Christian," includes Jews.

So, I set it back down and walked away.

Her repeated references to Judaism (and denunciation of Hitler and the Nazis) is a clear attempt at refuting the claim that she's a closet nazi while trying to draw in Jewish supporters. But that footnote was kind of insulting.

Also, from what I read, it was horribly thrown together. I've been thinking of writing a refutation of it, but it's probably a waste of my time.

well alot of right wingers point to the "judeo christian" morality as a hallmark of american ness. So maybe that's what she meant. a bible based secular western conservative approach.

But if you were to pick it apart, obviously there are things jews and christians do differently. those differences just aren't under the microscope right now.

All good Christians believe that everyone should be a Christian. I'm pretty sure Jews are partial to Jews also. I don't know if they want Christians to convert, but orthodox Jews don't want their daughters marrying one.

Where do Muslims stand on non-muslims? Hindu's on non-Hindu's? etc?

"Judeo-Christian," is a misnomer. There is nothing Judaism shares with Christianity which it does not also share with Islam. But really, in America, Reform Judaism is the largest denomination of Judaism, and actually, there is almost nothing Reform Judaism shares with Christianity which it does not share with secularists' morality. Those Jews who believe in Creationism, believe in an active God, have a particularly rigid personal morality which they feel should be imposed upon the community, and feel personally threatened by homosexuality, they tend to be Orthodox, which are the minority in America.

The term "Judeo-Christian," is an attempt by Christians to group together Judaism and Christianity because they strangely tend to have some extra zeal regarding converting Jews, as if converting Jews to Christianity somehow earned them bonus points. By saying "Judeo-Christian," it creates the impression that Christianity is actually based upon Judaism, a claim rejected by Jews. Also, of course, among political figures, it's an attempt at garnering support from Jews (who tend to be Liberal) by highlighting anti-religious sentiment among non-Jewish Liberals. Jesse Jackson says the term, "people of color," for similar reasons.

I think her intended meaning may have been "Judeo-Christian."

And I also think you should write a refutation. Mail it off to The New York Times, and watch for your name in print.

Hindus don't care about what others believe, probably because we all perpetually reincarnate and we're only punished for what we do to harm others, not what we believe. Muslims, however, are just as zealous regarding converting people as Christians are. You just don't experience it in America because Muslims are such a small minority.

I have no tag line, though. A friend of mine had a column published in the Washington Times, because he was a member of a foreign policy institute. Being a college student, he interned there for several years until he eventually became a member. And so, he could use the professional tagline "Mr. X is a member of the Foreign Policy Institute."

You need I tag-line, I think, because people won't accept statements from anybody unless they're of authority to speak on the subject.

But yes, it looks like a refutation would be easy. So, I won't have to buy her book (and thus contribute to her further stupidity), I think I'll take my laptop to the book store one day and copy the book.

Meh, they're only a few old testament books apart. Slap in a few chapters, re-number a few pages and it's " you say tom-aye-to and I say tomAtoe. " :-D

The Old Testament (aka "Hebrew Bible" aka "Tanakh") is only a small portion of all Jewish scripture.

True, true. Also, they wear little hats, whereas the pope has an enormous hat.

As an aside, I wonder why these anne coulter threads always grow to many pages...mostly people saying how stupid she is, don't pay attention to her, ( etc. etc, ) for six pages.

:-D

I predict this one will get to at least 5 pages...

Rats, I didn't see that one coming.

Okay, they have medium sized hats too-but I think you have to admit that that Popes hat kicks these other guys hats asses.
------------------------

*tries to make Coulter thread go five pages after shooting mouth off*

Also, you have to admit that the Torah is just the first five books of the Old Testament-
Quote: # Genesis (בראשית, ****: "In the beginning...")
# Exodus (שמות, Shemot: "Names")
# Leviticus (ויקרא, Vayyiqra: "And he called...")
# Numbers (במדבר, Bammidbar: "In the desert..."), and
# Deuteronomy (דברים

Okay, okay I got nothing- You try defending Ann Coulter for five pages
