| I dunno if it was all bad.......... the site seems to be running hella fast, seriously faster than I ever remember it running before. I don't ever remember clicking on something and having it transition so smoothly. Maybe we should get hacked and rebuilt more often. .......... :shifty: |

It's being worked on bob. :)
I was more asking whether they should, or whether they should be left to die... |

| Is that what was wrong? I tried to browse the forums earlier and it kept asking for my name and password in a pop-up box (which was weird as I have it set to automatically log me in so I don't have to remember my password). I tried to enter using the login box, but it was a nogo. I changed my password since I used it to try and enter the site. GG, getting the site back up though. This is my fav web forum, and I'd hate to see it down any longer than it has to be. |

It depends on the severity, I don't think defacing a website is a felony unless it halts commerce for a substantial length of time like ebay, amazon, NYSE, or it's a gov't site.
Anything across state lines just means that the FBI not local law enforcement is involved, but I seriously doubt the FBI is going to look into DoS attacks, I think that law is more in line with drug running and bank robbing. |

| The best thing to do is probably get the guys IP address, report it to their ISP, and hope they lose their service for violating the TOS. |

I am so impressed to see the forum get back so fast. You Guy's are awesome.
I was witness to the crack hack's handi work last night. I thought I got banned because I couldn't post anymore. But when I got back on all the forums were GONE!!! except for that hack's message. That person is/was nuttier than a fruitcake.
However, something else strange occured while this site was being attacked last night. I went to another forum (to curb my withdrawals) and there was my IP address, my server, my operating system and internet provider information in some guy named, 'Trajan Octavian Titus's' signature. Check it out below and see if your ISP info comes up in his signature or not. Let me know if it does. Should we be worried about other people knowing our ISP addresses?

It looks like that person merely has his sig linked to DNSSTUFF or somesuch. Although maybe someone with a little more knowledge than me on this stuff can shed some light.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've been to forums where they posted your IP address after your comment. :? |

It's nothing to worry about. It's a special signiture generated by some website, I believe that praetorian had one some time ago. The website that generates the signiture has that information (as does just about every website that you visit), but I doubt it's anything to be concerned about.
I thought it was kinda interesting to watchs get knocked aside, to view the old layout, and such, aside from that... I couldn't post for more than three hours... I feel violated. So very violated. |

My email address is getting spammed big style, starting last night so I'm kinda suspicious as it used to be clean. Other than that all is ok :-| |

We should probobly all change our forum passwords just to be safe.
It doesn't hurt to normally do that anyways.
Same with our email and anything else we can think of.
Its about that time for me to do it anyways. |

They never had access to the database, so all accounts are safe. :) |

I thought that the site had had a little spruce up and that everyone was having to reinput their password. I tried every combination I could think of and none would work. (Took me two goes this morning  )
One thing that would concern me slightly is that would the hacker have knowledge about what was being put into the password area of that box? Is it possible he could have been harvesting potential passwords for wherever your user name was in use? |
