Like many western nations, Australia has jumped right on the anti-terror legislation band wagon. The updated terror laws recently passed, without so much as a passing mention in the media, undermine basic human rights such as any sense of a fair trial and the basic assumption of innocent until proven guilty. I didnt beleive it was so bad until the recent example of the first man to be charged under the laws - Faheem Khalid Lodhi. How can you defend yourself if you can't see the evidence? How can a jury decide if IT cant see the evidence?
It makes a mockery of the court system and relegates it to a formality.
Yes this is a quote from the court trasncript:
Prosecutor: I can't show you the evidence, but let me assure you it's compelling.
The sad truth is that nobody will say anything until the accused has a name like Smith.
Dateline SBS did a report on the laws, its very troubling.

This is the bill itself. The changes effectively mean that terrorism comes down to interpretation of the individual, not the evidence.

People of other countries take note - this is not an isolated incident |

| If these are supposedly Australian values, then we should have a Bill of Rights in the Constitution. |
