Windows Live One Care

I really just can't believe the nerve of Microsoft. They put out a piece of sh!t Operating System then come out with a product to make it run "relatively" stable and secure and charge $50 for it.

Here's an idea..........why not include all that stuff IN YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM to begin with at no additional cost.

....................and people are dumb enough to rave about it.

Quote: “It's amazing. I like that is has everything, it's like driving a computer with airbags! I really like not having to worry about it -- I'm on the computer all the time, and it's very nice to know that I have that up to the minute protection.”
-Sharon, stained glass artist in South Carolina

:?

I guess she didn't get the memo that good products like a car would come with airbags at no additional cost.

If the OS is that bad, why would I put my faith in another piece of software designed by the same jags? :?

Quote: "OneCare is very easy to operate. It makes it nice not having to hunt for spyware and virus programs and making sure they are up to date and running.”
-Richard, home computer user in Arizona

You shouldn't have to hunt for any of these programs if the OS wasn't an unsecure piece of sh!t. :gdgf:

Good God, no wonder the Pet Rock guy made a fortune.

All it does isinstall a virus/spyware scanner and turn on the POS MS firewall and automatic update system.

Now it automaticly updates the virus lists and updates your system like normal. WooHooo!!!

Didn't MS just buy out one of the bigger anti-virus companies out there. Maybe this is their rebranded product MS is trying to sell for 50 bucks a pop.

I think Norton is suing them over this for stealing ideas etc. They took the ideas from a company that Norton had acquired a year earlier, but before the acquisition they gave the ideas to MS.

They are: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4996630.stm

Just like the netscape browser wars.

As soon as MS wins in court it will probobly never update the antivirus software for years. Just like Exploder.

If I continue to use Windows on the side, I will continue to use Norton to secure it. I love Norton and have never had any problems with it and the registry cleaner is superb. I see no reason to use a piece of software from an OS manufacturer that makes an unsecure OS and then makes a program to secure it with same lame code..........and you know it's going to get haxxored like mad.

For my home network I use a hardware fire wall built into the router. And no one runs an admin acount except me.

5 computers running XP. Mine running both XP and Linux. A wireless laptop. My sons PS2wired and his PSP wireless.

Soon I'm installing a Linux router box so I can run DansGuardian for content filtering on my sons computer and the spare three his friends use.

Haven't had a virus in at least four years. Knock on my head.

That's a lot of crap to maintain. I just have one router, two PC's, and my Xbox.

Adding in the wireless router took about an hour to setup everything including the new security.

The rest are relatively maintinance free. As long as no one installs anything funky I don't have anything to do.

I only every tried Norton once. It destroyed my system. That was in the bad old days, though.
