My computer keeps saying I need to update my Office Front Page and in doing so it starts up a file named "ckn.exe" and it will continually open these processes till who knows when... What can I do?

The best thing to do is go to a forum like this:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?p=65714

They will ask you to make a Hijack This log and post it for them to examine.

You can the program here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

What does is makes a log of what is running on your comp and then the guys at the forum will help you get it all straightened out.

What did you get into, man?

I've been there.

BTW ckn.exe seems to have something to do with firmware, but why frontpage would want to load that for I cannot say.

Probably those guys at that forum I mentioned can help you.

Replace your MS Office with Open Office and replace IE with Firefox.....or just get rid of all that nasty stuff by using Ubuntu and ditch Windows, spyware, adware, malware, and all the other crap that Windows soaks up like a sponge. :)

If you run Windows, get Microsoft Defender (it's free from their site)

I'm on the comp right now and it runs perfectly fine in Safe mode with Networking but if I go into my user name it totally messes up. And keeps telling me I'm missing a file in Frontpage Proplus.msi this is driving me nuts.

I'm that friend and family member that 'knows everything' about computers. I don't even run XP as my main OS but I'm the guy called to fix it. At least I almost never have to buy beer and I get quite a few meals out of it. I found out I like Linux much better for internet and network work. MS is just for games and people who are bit tech-phobic.

But I just can't make jokes about MS anymore. It no fun and I have to work with it way to much.

If you don't know what you're doing do not touch your registry, if you f#ck up your registry your copy of Windows is done. You'll be reinstalling, which at this point maybe your best option. Google a little more for an answer first.

That link is FUBAR: Quote: An error has occurred.

I know I build and maintain PC's for friends and family too, all XP. The worst is the install time, it doesn't come with any drivers and then you have to load like 6 crutch programs to get to run securely.

I use Ubuntu and have an XP drive for the occaisonal game or Ipod maintenance.

I searched the net for a week to find the XP drivers for a systemax laptop soundcard. Never found one that worked.

Popped in a live linux and it has the sound running right off the bat. It even told me that systemax was using a differnet sound chip than what they were saying it should have been. I found the new driver and inside a half hour had the thing running fine in windows.

I've loaded Ubuntu on my main rig with zero problems and everything working. I built a another PC to test various distros of Linux on and the drviers are there everytime, even my printer.

No swapping discs in and out of the drive, no rebooting, it's heaven.
