| That is an interesting thought. I wonder if someone could actually make a case on something like that. Difficult at best, but I would like to read case law on that one. |

Naah it simply wouldn't stick. They are simlpy arguing for the way they think the country can best be protected.
Treason:
Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies |

it could be argued that by plotting to destroy a fundemental, Constitutionally-guaranteed right the UN has become our enemy.... just food for thought. |

Dunno. Here's more food for thought.
A political party starts in the US that promises to get rid of democracy once and for all.
Can they legally come into power, and cancel elections from then on -- just as they promised they would?? |

As long as they are doing everything in a non-violent manner, it's ok. Treason has to involve war/revolution, etc. Political work is not considered treasonous. |

Well, they can only cancel elections with a consitutional amendment, but as long as they do everything according to the Consitution, they can amend the Constitution as they see fit (if they can get the votes to do so). |
