Everytime I try to shut down my computer, a window opens up that says,
"NVIDIA program is shutting down", below is a button that says end now. It just started doing this, but does anyone know what the problem could be? |

Is it a Windows message or a Nvidia application message? If it's Windows, it's because the application is hanging for some reason and Windows is having trouble shutting it down so you have to do it manually. |

What Nvidia program is running.
You should be able to ininstall the one that lets you minutely adjust the video settings and you'll still keep the driver for windows. I can't see the driver hanging.
God why did I install XP last week? I know exactly what your going though. |

Sounds like a Windows message to me.
Probably not a problem. Do you have a card with a large amount of RAM? |

You could try uninstalling and re-installing your drivers.
Or go to hardware and uninstall (don't actually take the card out) the device and let plug and play reinstall it.
Probably your driver is corrupted or something minor like that. |

Or run a Direct X diagnostic.
Click start, run, type in dxdiag, and run some tests. |

Hmmm...it's not really a huge problem, but more of an annoyance. I think it's a Windows message.
I can't uninstall NVIDIA can I? Isn't that like a sound or graphics card or something? |

You can uninstall the hardware without actually removing the card. And then the plug and play capability will prompt you to reinstall it.
If you have XP right click on My Computer icon, click properties and select the hardware tab and and choose device manager.
You can adjust the hardware and driver properties from there.
That may fix it.
But I would run the dxdiag first and see what it says. Click start run and type in dxdiag. You can figure it out from there. Play around with the tests and whatnot. |

If it is a card with a lot of RAM it may just take a while to shut down. Just click end now.
I doubt it is is a problem really. But it does give you a chance to play around a bit with that stuff I mentioned and see what it does. It won't screw up your comp or anything. |

I know my Nvidia card came with both a driver that is really the only thing needed and also a video adjusting program to give you finer controle. You can live without the extra program and still use the driver.
Like the Cap'n says. Tell the computer to uninstall the hardware. The uninstall the software for it.(anything that says Nvidia)
Then when prompted by the computer just reinstall the driver only. You should have it on disk unless the comp manufacturer was to cheap to send one. God the disks are only 10 cents. |

| Or go to the Nvidia website and download and reinstall the new driver. They probably have an update. they are good about things like that. |

its either
windows is gay
to much cpu latency, if your computer forgets to write a small peice of data because it forgot or something 2 things happen
1. you freeze, for either a long @ss time or forever, ever, ever, Ever, EVER, and ever.
2. fatal system error. >then it restarts, infinite loop $hit, cant break operation $hit.
get a new cpu |

Open Source isn't for everyone and Linux has it's fair share of configuring. Windows is what it is, no reason to hate. |

| Ok, it just stopped doing it. Thanks for the help anyway guys, I cleared my hardrive of a bunch of useless software , so maybe something was messing it up. |

| One of those useless softwares may have been not releasing the video card and that was what was causing it. |
