I need a site or book with periodic maps from ancient times to modern about political borders (Europe specifically). I need this for personal research about the growth, change, and decline of different contries and civlizations.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. |

There is an awesome book called "Europe: A History" by Norman Davies. Although not an atlas, the book has plentiful maps, and is also the most complete and concise (although still a massive book) history of Europe from pre-history until (in the version I have) the breakup of the Soviet Union ever put between two covers. It would be an excellent resource for your target research, and a great companion to any atlases that you discover in your quest, as individual time periods the match particular maps can be informatively digested in a reasonable amount of time.
It also happens to be very well written and while very complete, is refreshing and interesting instead of being too dry, unlike most books of it's type.
I've seen the book available for a discount several times since I've acquired it.
Good luck! |

That book annoyed me. The material in it was pure gold, but the presentation was so "look at me, aren't I clever?" that I couldn't read it for more than an hour or so at a time. |
