Man Shoots in Self-Defense, Police Say
Quote:
Police don’t want people to go looking for trouble, but they say people have a right to defend themselves and their family. East Nashville residents tired of being targets said they're not going to let criminals control their streets.
“We work hard every day, and we come home and stuff's torn up or stolen,” victim Teddy Frazier said.
Frazier watched Monday as a stranger started casing his 1991 Chevy Silverado
"He's looking in the window, pulling up on it," he said.
The 46-year-old electrician grabbed his gun and confronted the thief.
“The marks are here where he was trying to pry open the window,” Frazier said.
“I told him: ‘You need to get off my truck.’ I warned him twice before I actually pointed the gun at him,” Frazier said.
Frazier said the man lunged at him. The pool of blood in the grass tells what happened next.
“I had no choice. I went ahead and shot him,” Frazier said.
Floyd Cleveland took one bullet to the leg. As soon as he's out of the hospital, he'll be charged with aggravated assault and attempted burglary.
He's no stranger to the system. Cleveland has been arrested for burglary and assault. In fact, he had just been paroled May 22 of this year.
Police said it appears Frazier acted in self-defense, and he agrees crime fighting is best left to the cops
“My advice is … to call police and report it,” Frazier said. “This stuff needs to stop. There ain't nothing else I can say. People need to quit being scared.”
Detectives are running Floyd Cleveland's fingerprints to see if he's responsible for any other crimes in east Nashville.
Police are investigating what may be a similar case nearby. Saturday night, two robbers mugged a man on Bethwood Drive. Less than 20 minutes later, someone shot the robbery suspects near the Casey homes. Detectives continued looking for the shooter[/qoute]
The thug was trying to steal a guys truck, his means of going to work and earning a living. (Public trans here in Nashville s*cks) The man told him to stop and gave him a chance to stop only shooting when attacked. This is why people must be allowed to own a firearm. Without his truck he woudl have no transportation to and from work and no one has theft insurance on a 15 year old truck.

That's the difference with Nashville and NJ - In NJ, I have no choice but to let the guy break into my car and do whatever he wants to it.
I have to call the cops - I can't threaten or try to bluff him away with anything. The only time I can actually fire a weapon is if the guy has busted down my door and I have an indisputable "threat to my life" Even him lunging at me wouldn't necessarily hold up in court as an "attack". He'd actually have to either fire on me, have some sort of visible weapon and had taken a swing or thrown it at me or had done something similiar to one of my family.
If I shoot someone outside of my house, say on my property, in my car, setting fire to my house or shooting at my house... I'll be carted off to jail.
As well, NJ courts don't like hollow points - the lawyers have twisted this into "The Homeowner was looking to shoot someone which is why they had hollow point bullets".
This is what it's like living in an oppressive and anti-gun state. Yes, shootings happen every day almost every hour in Camden NJ, THE FRIGGIN MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN THE U.S. 2 YEARS RUNNING... and yet, the asshats say NJ is one of the safest states in the country. Corruption by the politicians in my state makes The Soprano's look like a Spongebob Squarepants episode. Yeah, real safe.
Guys with the Castle Doctrine, thank your politicians by voting for them again in the next election. If the Lucky Luke sort gets in, it'll be like he (sic) moved in with you. Sounds fun in a "chinese torture" sorta way. |

Actually we don't have the castle doctrine here in TN. It is in bill form but being ignored for now. We do however have a law that states if you are on your own property (owned or rented by you) then there is no duty to retreat. You just have to retreat if you are anywhere else and this guy now will have to watch out for a lawsuit filed by the guy he shot trying to steal his car. A store owner here recently killed a man that was robbing his store (the robber had a gun as well) and now the robbers family is sueing him for lose of income and mental damage. I really hope we get the castle doctrine passed here soon to get ride of these insane lawsuits. |

I have to agree there are a number of reasons why you should have weapons. To defend your property and your family not to mention your self. I happen to have a large variety of weapons and only once was I ever confronted by a would be burglar. Yes, he did break into my home, yes he did have a gun (unknown at the moment), yes, he did fire one shot at me, and Yes it did go through the wall between the bunk beds where my two daughters were sleeping. Yes, I did warn him & finally Yes, I am still here and he is no longer among the living. Regrets - not one.
Was I right to have a gun you bet. Would I do it again - probably. Did I get in hot water- yes, for only one hour.

One zero,
That night was not one that I ever want to repeat but I did what was needed to protect my self and my daughters. I do not relish in it and I hope no one has to do what I did. But guns if used wisely are a tool. If used incorrect they are deadly. Does it haunt me for capping his happy butt, not really. Just some sturng out illegal alien is what he was. But that's a subject for another time as my views on illegals is rather blunt and not polite. But here in Idaho some of us do things differently than SF or some more liberal states. :) |

He wasn't a burglar and anyone wanting to intrude your home would make sure to be armed, how does that make you and your family safer?

Guns are used to save lives
Actually now that I think about it, I was right; guns do not affect the crime rate by themselves, and they do not cause crime, but they DO save lives. If someone is falling off a cliff and grabs a tree, the tree saved a life. Of course it can't do it by itself, but if used properly they can save lives. |

Mr. Lucky Luke,
Yes he was a burglar. He had numerous articles with him that he had already stolen from different houses on my street. The gun he fired came from a house 2 doors down the street (they were on vacation in France) and he broke my window and got in. NOT A BURGLAR I differ in what you call a burglar.
A gun is only a tool but a good tool if used properly and wisely. The situation warranted the result. Sad but it happened and I have no regrets about defending my family. SO don't assume he was not a burglar or potentially dangerous. :ah: |

Let's compare New Jersey and Tennessee, which state is the safest Rankor and Pissing?
Quote: Table 5
Crime in the United State by State, 2004
Rate per 100,000 inhabitants...............NEW JERSEY......TENNESSEE
Violent crime..........................................355.7..................695.2
Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter.....4.5.....................5.9
Forcible rape.............................................15.3..................37.6
Robbery..................................................150.3................149.8
Aggravated assault...................................185.6................501.8
Property crime.....................................2,429.2.............4,306.5
Burglary...................................................471.7..............1,020.3
Larceny-theft........................................1,609.1..............2,866.8
Motor vehicle theft.....................................348.4................419.4
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_04/offenses_reported/offense_tabulations/table_05.html
Oops wrong again Rankor and Pissing the fact is that Camden is better off with the gun control laws of New Jersey than the ones of Tennessee.
Your corrupted state politicians are doing a grand job, what is wrong with Tennessee?
We already debated the study that declared Camden NJ so dangerous and we already found our that Camden was not the city with most murders and that New Jersey had a city in the same study as one of the ten safest cities in America making your conclusions just plain wrong.
