Quote: Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Larry Wiginton told the newspaper that the shooter was armed with a deer rifle and at least 150 rounds of armor-piercing ammunition. Officers on the scene told the newspaper that the man had threatened not to be taken alive.
 deer rifle and armor-piercing ammunition? He could have had the same rifle the police snipers had, same caliber too. Oh yeah guess what? almost ALL "deer" rifle ammo is armor-piercing! |

Let me play anti-gun here:
Na-uuuh. Armor piercing ammo is a special ammo that only the most wicked people would want to shoot. People should only be allowed to own regular ammo. |

| AP or not, being rifle ammo, it wouldn't have mattered insofar as the kevlar vests are concerned. They only protect against the majority of pistol rounds. To be honest, I think cops are more anti-gun than people are willing to admit. Especially in my area. |

It would not surprise me one bit that California cops are anti-gun.
I was a mischievous little brat when i was growing up and my game was paintball. Well when i got a little older and a little bolder we would terrorize the neighborhoods at night shooting signs out the side of our buddies van (highly unsafe as i and my buddy Eric almost fell out a couple times). Well the cops were non to happy about that and started investigating, like the stupid brats that we were, we were messing around in the front driveway shooting each other at really really low air pressure. Low and behold the cop doing the investigating just happen to be driving by... well needless to say we got a healthy lecture that consisted of we shouldnt be out in public with them, he might have shot us... and had other stories of how guns led to cops shooting kids… we didnt get in trouble because we all played stupid... stupid kids that is.
then we had a good laugh afterwards because we know we just averted some real trouble. Thus our reign of terror was over. |

That's a reflection of your area. Every cop I've ever discussed gun control with have been against it. They want the good guys armed. In fact, the last cop I talked to about this, offered be suggestions of what round to load in my 9mm for maximum effectiveness. |

Same here, I know a few cops and not only do they keep shotguns by their bed but the encouraged me to do the same. |

| Eh, I guess it's a Cali thing. Even in the very conservative area I live in, most cops are hostile to gun ownership by ordinary citizens, and especially to the carrying of weapons. Most are in favor of gun control. It's far worse in the more liberal areas of the State, like L.A. |
