Only intended for people that participate in gun sport. Simple question .. whats your distance and target of choice (and weapon of choice if you choose)?

As in -- do you like to blow the crap out of an old TV with a 12-gauge at 10 foot?

Or is your idea of fun the 1200 metre one-shot one-kill of a stag?

Or do you prefer shooting targets at the range. If so whats your choice? 25 meters? 300 metres?

No right or wrong answer (as with most my posts it seems).

Me first -- I like 'target shooting' with a nice small .22 rifle (from 25 metres I can get 10 shots within a 2p coin (about the same as a quarter). I don't fancy the idea of hunting big, proud animals. Not my idea of a kick (yes I know -- what a wuss!).

You?

I hunt deer (usually less than 100 yds b/c of the terrain), shoot .22 (50 feet) and .308 (300 yds or more).

I like shooting my AK variant anywhere from a couple yards out to one hundred. The target doesn't matter much, but I prefer the larger silhouette targets.

15-50 feet with my .45... depending how lucky i feel

100ft - 200 yards with my XM15... depending where im shooting.

50 - 300 yards with my m1... only shot it a handful of times.

My groupings are rather consistent with the XM15, and by far the most fun of the 3 to shoot. Ive gotten better and better with the m1 each time i shot with it but nothing to brag about. Im near expert level with my .45 as it was my 1st gun and have shot it more times then i can count.

When we (my brother and I) go to range, we take an arsenal with us. The range we shoot only has up to a 100 yard rifle range. I wish they had at least a 300 yard range or possibly more. (I shot 500 yard ranges in the military.) I like shooting pistol from 15 yards as well.

Here's a list of what we normally take to the range:
Rifles:
Mosin Nagant M38
Mosin Nagant M44
M1 Garand
Yugo SKS
Marlin 60
Swiss K11
Swiss K31 (several)
Bushmaster XM4 AR15

Pistols:
Ruger Mark II
Ruger 22/45
Ruger P345PR
Glock (.40S&W compact and subcompact)
Ruger Super BlackHawk .44 Magnum (Scoped Stainless)
Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum
Ruger Security Six .38 Special

That's all I can think of right now, but I might be missing a few.

Let's see I shoot american trap both singles and doubles so lots of clay targets for me about 7-8,000 year. When it's hunting season my favorite target are upland game birds and waterfowl.

With my hunting rifle I regularly practice at 100, 200 & 300 yards and occasionally for fun I'll shoot at the 600 yard target. I reload my own cartriges and when developing loads for my gun am not happy unless I can fit 3 shots behind a quarter. 95% of the big game I take are at 200 yds or less (probably 75% within 100yds) and won't shoot farther than that unless the conditions are perfect (i.e. no wind, I've got my bipods or a very steady rest, I'm very certain of the distance and the animal is not moving). My farthest one shot kill was 390yds through the lungs, the deer went 10 ft before collapsing.

As far as .22 rifles, my favorite targets are gophers (ground squirels). Any of them show themselves withing 50 yds is dead. I practice shooting shotgun hulls at 50 yds and don't miss often. For long range gopher and coyote shooting (200yds +) I use my .243 with bipods. Now that is fun.

With my .44 mag I'll shoot a deer if I can get within 50yds of it. I always pack it with me hunting in case I get an opportunity for a real close shot.

I also got a pair of Ruger Vaqueros I shoot monthly at SASS shoots at steel targets that range out to about 15-25ft. And with my lever action 1894 we'll shoot out to about 25 yds.

The rest of my pistols I like shooting at the range at 10 and 15yds.

NRA service rifle at 200 yds, 300 yds, and 600 yds; standing, sitting, and prone. I shoot AR-15 and M1A.

IDPA pistol with my 1911 and bowling pin mathces. Shooting is mostly under 25 yards.

Skeet. I can shoot skeet on my lunch break. So when weather is mild, shoot lots of skeet. Not serious. Just plain fun to bust clays.

Tried hunting. I don't want to hide. I wanted to stalk. Me 0, deer 4.

The anti-gunners think I am praticing to rob liquor stores, rape women, and kill children.

i dont get to shoot nearly as often as i should.... so my main "sport" with my weapons.. is...well.. uhh.. cleaning them

Las Vegas lacks decent ranges....we used to have a few nice ones...1500 yard butts.. those are long gone now.

ill head off into central nevada every now and then for a lil bighorn stalking....and up to minnesota for Deer... Colorado for Elk.

i prefer to practice at 600 yards...all my rifles are zeroed for that range...excepting a few plinkers that i own.

i dont practice much with handgun... but ive been known to go out to combat town for a lil live fire action... just to keep from getting too rusty

my longest 1 shot kill...a touch over 520 on a bighorn outside Beatty Nevada...oddly enough.. it wasnt even my rifle i was firing.. it was a buddies model 70 in .300 wetherby.. it was a shot i never should have taken.. but i was glad i did
