I'm having like problems connecting to various things, for example, the newest version of skype or Firefox does not connect (but the older version does), AIM, and MSN do not connect, I can't get to the login page for Amazon, eBay, or gmail, and when I try to play licensed music or video files my Windows Media Player won't connect.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. +p

Sounds like a firewall problem, make sure they have permissions.

I could see that for the external programs, but for ebay and gmail? I can sign into other places just fine (PCF for example) but not those...

Sometimes it's the scripts that you allow or don't allow. Many pages now use ActiveX or other Java based scripting. Look at your browser security settings. If they're set to high... knock them down a little.

Allow Active X (set it to ask you first) as well as java (same way). I'm running the latest Firefox and have a script blocker extension running - so everytime something doesn't load - it's usually because of the a script that wants to run, or it's blocking pop-up ads or some other type of spam.

Where would I do that? I looked in the options and couldn't find anything....

I use Mozilla Firefox v.1.5.0.2 if that helps... but I should add that even using IE I can't log on to those sites.

If IE doesn't work either - then it's not a browser problem.

What shows up when you try to get to Amazon? Any error? (404 error or 500 error? Anything like that - or does it simply keep trying but never load?)

Try also doing this - post the result of it:

Start - Run - type: cmd
(dos window shows up)
type: ping www.amazon.com

note the results

Start - Run - type: cmd
(dos windows shows up)
type: tracert www.amazon.com

note the results

Start - Run - type: cmd
(dos window shows up)
type: netstat

note the results

type: routeprint

note results

Depending on what happens - I think it might be that your firewall (software or the one on your modem/router) may be filtering something out.

It could also be that for some reason, the embedded scripts aren't running properly.

When I try to go to ebay it says Quote: Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at signin.ebay.com.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I'll try the other stuff, thanks.

Don't disable it. :gdgf:

Just give the programs that you need to use permissions.
