Can anyone tell me something.
If one country, say the US, decided to suddenly for no reason whatsoever, launch a nuke at lets say........Italy.
How could anyone find out that the US is the one who shot the nuke?
Do they figure out just based on where it came from and speed/distance? |

Radar or orbital satillates could theoretically check the course of the missile. You cant use speed or distance because once the missile hits you have no idea how long it took to get to it's target, and you cant use speed against distance unless you have a rough idea of where the missile came from.
Though you do raise an interesting point, one that was highlighted through a few unknown nuclear missile launch tests during the cold war.
If it was a submarine launched missile odds are it could remain secret. Also unless it was detected either during the launch, or recorded then it would remain a mystery no doubt. |

Missles also show up on radar/satellite tracking. Plus all the world's militaries keep very close track of each others nukes, especially these days:(
It would take the italian military all of 30 seconds to know exactly where the missle was launched from, when, and how long till it hit.
Why kill Italians, anyways? |

Who knows, but there is always some psycho in charge of nukes or countries with their own agenda.........
And no, that has nothing to do with Bush. I dont support him on most things, but Im not an idiot bush basher either. |

| No one is just going to Nuke someone without being threatened. There would have to be some sort of tension between the two countries and the one that didnt shoot it would know who did. And they would report it to Nato and it would be a breach of Ammenment V of the North Atlantic Treaty and WWIII would start. |

| I don't worry about the nations with "known" nukes making a launch. It's the small wild card that is floating around out there that might want to smuggle one into a city and set it off. That's what worries me the most. |
