Sometime this summer I will probobly end up doing my first computer build. I have all my parts ready to order, but one thing I cannont decide on is whether I should get a 7600Gt or a 7900Gt. I have the money for a 7900 but I figure that if I get a 7600, which plays all current games fine, I can wait untill some dx10 cards come out and buy those to play games like crysis very well. Whadya think?
It will also have

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3500BPBOX - Retail
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS2GBKIT400C3 - Retail ( and I will take out a gig of RAM in my current comp so the total will be 3 gigs)

| Given that you know as well as I do that dx10 cards are not far from being out I'd go for the 7600 for now. |

I'd get the HDD in SATA as that motherboard supports it and there is little to no additional cost to get one and you get a little boost in load times. |

It should be plenty, anything over 350. |

Well if you've got an SLI board it is a waste to just buy 1 video card. I would go with 2 7900 GTs. Oh wait I did go with 2 7900 GTs. But if you do you will need more than 450W.
You don't' know how many times in college I had friends call me in to check on their computers just to see a bunch of lines running through their screen.
"So whats wrong hulk"
"Your cheap old power supply you ported over from your cheap old machine is killing your new expensive video card."
But remember its not only quantity that matters with a power supply quality is just as important. A shi**y 600W can fry your components in no time.
The problem is that there is an inverse relationship between quantity and quality. You will notice that while there are a lot of 600W+ power supplies out there very few of the high quality companies like Antec make power supplies that high. Because they will not put their name to anything they view as unstable. |

I'm not worried about the quality of my PSU, very solid-feeling, very heavy, and it hasnt quit on me yet, let alone have any problems. I already know to upgrade it if I ever go SLI
The reason i'm thinking about a 7600 is to save money to upgrade to a top-of-the-line dx10 card once the bugs have been woked out of Vista.
I'm getting a SLI board just so I have the ability to go SLI, but I dont intent on using that cababality right away. |

| I only have a 6600GT and it seems very awesome, but I haven't been into gaming so wouldn't know if it has limitations or anything like that. |

I use the 6600gtoc from bfg...and i would say that because of how cheap these cards are now...(they will do anything out there right now) i would suggest spending even less than you would for the 7600gt. I have used this card since it was about 350...or so...about a year and a half...it is a great card...
i plan on upgrading this summer, but this card still does everything so i think it would be a cheap substitute until you are ready to go full on... |
