| I'm just a boring middle-class, taxpaying citizen who stays out of trouble, makes my payments on time, calls her mom on mother's day, and works very hard for a living. And oh yes, I live with my life partner who also does the above. My point is, there is much debate on this forum about gays (rarely do I see the word lesbian, but that's another topic); moral or immoral, natural or unnatural, different brains or not (and that study was men only by the way), and so on. But guess what, most of us gays and lesbians are just normal hard-working shlubs who just want to live and let live, just like all the rest of you. So for those of you who rant about my evilness and immorality, how do you think it feels to live in this country as a lesbian and to hear about some congressman recently elected who espouses that homosexuals should all be executed (yes, this is a man who was elected by US citizens) in order to improve our moral standing as humans. You think gays and lesbians have nothing to be pissed off about, think again. We have unwittingly become the enemies of morality and shame on you bible thrusters for that. I love my partner and like it or not, we are good citizens and neighbors. And we may be living right next to you! |

Islandhopper, surely the time of peace is over, it's time we unleashed the horrible dark secret of homosexuals, that we are the second evolution of humanity, here to destroy the world. Eating the brains of children and killing babies, crucifying house pets. Oh yes, the evil of homosexuals is yet to begin, muahahahahaha......
By the way, Transsexuality is really a plot from conservative christians to undermine the feminist movement, there, I said it, I'm really a Conservative Christian in disguise, Ph33r me... |

No doubt there are still people today that need to be 'put to sleep', as the case with the mentioned congressman.
What I don't understand, & has yet to be logically explained to me, is why does it matter to these religious people what the 'people' living across the street do in their own homes? How does it effect them? Don't they have their own issues that they need to wrestle with? Why butt into our lives if we are minding our own business? If the rel;igious people's lives are that calm & 'religiously sound', maybe they should check themselves because they obviously aren't doing something right!
As a christian, you are constantly changing & growing & trying to live up to God's standards. But you will never make it, so you keep trying - that in of itself, should should be a 24/7 job.
Gay people, in general, aren't asking for tax expemt status, aren't asking for our votes to be counted 2 or 3 times over in each election, aren't asking for free popcorn at the movies, etc. Most gays aren't even asking to be liked by others - we just want the same rights to live OUR lives as WE see fit. It would seem a simple concept, and yet people just don't get it. |

The mistake y'all are making is that you assume other people actually care about stuff like fairness, equality, etc.
They don't. Not beyond giving it lip service. Alongside of this generalized apathy you have the anti-gay religious crowd, living in their own reality, where everyone is responsible in some degree to make sure their 'brothers' and 'sisters' are constantly receiving correction of their moral missteps so that no one in the community becomes separated from God for their unrepented sins. Plus there's always the underlying fear that failing to deal effectively with the sinners in their midst will bring down God's wrath on everyone else for allowing the sin to go unchallenged. It's essentially a collectivist philosophy that differs from others mainly in being concerned with spirituality rather than earthly economics. The needs of the individual to experience free will and liberty are viewed as secondary to maintaining the community of faith as a whole, as free of sin as is humanly possible.
You will never convince such people of your righteousness, much less that you have rights whose free exercise shoudn't be subjugated to the will & beliefs of their particular sect. It's a waste of breath to even try. |

Well hopefully people's mindset will change. I think it is already changing, albeit slowly.
And the Christians that I personally know, while they may not agree with the 'gay lifestyle', they don't look down their noses at gay people either, which happens a lot on these forums. |

i dont wonder why anymore.
I'm convinced there are people on this planet who think themselves this perfect beacon of humanity, and everyone ought to follow in their footsteps.
The frequency of this character trait is significant in the religious sectors. Now, thats not fair to those claiming against such traits.
That is sure fine with me.
I cant help but illuminate the superiority complex some of the religious have. I mean, they sit in their perfect worlds and criticise what people choose to do with their genitalia as if theyve something of less sin in their personality (aka PERFECT).
In other words, i'll bet I could find some equally as disturbing trait in one of those who criticise sexuality.
The difference would be that I dont give a crap about such trait.
The point is, these people who criticise sexuality are narcissistic perfectionist who need a good wake up call or a mirror. Either one SHOULD DO. |
