Biblical Oddities

In the previous post on Biblical Moralities is a section about eating bugs. The scripture cited above was prefaced with this oddity:

The Biblical "Ten Commandments"
======================================
There are actually 3 versions in the OT, and a 4th in the NT.
Exodus 20:2-17, is the set used by Protestants and Catholics. However, these are NOT exclusively such, and definitely were NOT the set that was carved into any stereotypical stone tablets.
The commandments listed in Exodus 20:2-17 were recited, not written, and certainly NOT in the book as "The Ten Commandments". This term is absent in all but the most recent editions of concordances.
It was after this set was verbally delivered that the first set of stone tablets were handed to Moses (Exodus 31:18 ) and these were the ones that Moses destroyed when he saw his people worshipping the golden calf (and archaeologists have established that this calf idol of Baal was a god of the storm, not by any means the most powerful god in the Sumerian-related pagan systems of belief)(Exodus 32:19).
He gets a replacement and is told "Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest." (Exodus 34:1), but God apparently forgot all about the Commandments in Exodus 20:2-17 because this is what God wrote on the replacement tablets--
"And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten
commandments." (Exodus 34:28 )
1) Thou shalt worship no other God.
2) Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
3) The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep.
4) Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest.
5) Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks.
6) Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the Lord God.
7) Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven.
8 ) Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left until the morning.
9) The first of the firstfruits of thy land shalt thou bring unto the house of the Lord thy God.
10) Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
That tenth one is the official last commandment--it's requoted in Exodus 34:26 is the official tenth one.
Even Jesus wasn't sure about the commandments either.. In Matthew 19:18-19 he listed them as:
1) Thou shalt do no murder
2) Thou shalt not commit adultery
3) Thou shalt not steal
4) Thou shalt not bear false witness
5) Honour thy father and thy mother
6) Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
He's also on record as having handed out new commandments.
Not even ten in that list, even when you count the one about worshipping only the one God as assumed. Observing the sabbath or one holy day as the seventh day is totally out in the cold, bolstered by this verse:

Look at the picture of the woman being prepared for stoning, and see that Muslims remember what God ordered. Hypocrite liar evangelists don't tell you the rest of the Ten Commandments story.

10 BIBLICAL WAYS TO GET A WIFE
(Sorry, ladies, the Bible doesn't say much about getting a husband, perhaps because they are so easy to come by.)
1. Find an attractive prisoner of war, bring her home, shave her head, trim her nails, and give her new clothes. Then she's yours. (Deuteronomy 21:10-13)
2. Find a prostitute and marry her. (Hosea 1:1-30)
3. Buy property and get women thrown in as part of the deal. (Boaz in Ruth 4:5-10)
4. Go to a party and hide. When the women start to dance, grab one and carry her off to be your wife. Benjamites in Judges 21:19-25
5. Have God create a wife for you while you sleep. (Adam in Genesis 2:19-24)
6. Agree to work seven years in exchange for a woman's hand in marriage. Then get tricked into marrying the wrong woman. Then work another seven years for the woman you wanted to marry in the first place. That's right, 14 years of toil for the Mrs. Right. (Jacob in Genesis 9:15-30)
7. Cut 200 foreskins off your future father-in-law's enemies and get his daughter for a wife as a reward. (David in 1 Samuel 18:27)
8. Become ruler of a huge nation and hold a beauty contest. (Xerxes in Esther 2:3-23)
9. Wait for your brother to die and then take his widow. (Onan in Genesis 39:8)
10. Don't be picky. Make up for quality with quantity. (Solomon I Kings 11-3) |

Actually, I wonder which came first? Or who wrote 2 Corinthians? But I do believe if one reads the Gospel of Mark, they'd be very quick to notice only the crazy people knew who Jesus was. Even his own family thought, eh' was f-nuts. :? Which is a little different from how the other gospels presented it. Could the speaker in the passages have been bi-polar? |

Even his own family thought, eh' was f-nuts. :? Which is a little different from how the other gospels presented it. Could the speaker in the passages have been bi-polar?
Or a victim of Roman plumbing. The word "PLUMBing" is similar to the word PLUMBago where the former refers to pipes made of lead and the latter refers to graphite, aka "pencil lead". Chemical symbol for lead is Pb, and, that being said, I submit that there's a high possibility that the dementia was due to lead poisoning. |

As a matter of fact, it does, and Jesus refers to it when addressing the matter of divorce. Jesus is on record as pointing out that despite the commandment against adultery, Moses nonetheless issued certificates of divorce for men who wished to put their wives aside, and Moses authorized the breakage of that commandment because of hard hearts. |

| Word up is that this is the substance that made him a "genius". That superb arteestes are also on some kind of mind-altering substance is no accident. Famous past arteests were mostly absinthe imbibers, and sometimes mixed that with a poppy product. |

And one that evades archaeological proof of existing, as it happens. Archaeology has shown that there was a story similar to that of Moses that was recorded about a tribe called the Hyksos. There was no Hebrew captivity in Egyptian record but there WAS record about an Egyptian quarrantining of the Hyksos, who were severely aflicted with leprosy. They got out of quarrantine and wound up ruling Egypt for a brief period. Curiously enough, Saul/Paul makes a vague reference to a period of Hebrew history involving leprosy. I forget which Epistle, tho--will have to re-research that. |

| I've looked thru my notes a few times over and I'm not seeing where I made a note about it. I do recall reading the passage and thought it was remarkable. I'll just have to chance into it later. |
