| I had a gay friend in high school. His family was very nice and respectable; the mother was a doctor, the father an engineer. When he revealed his orientation to them though, he was immediately kicked out. His older brother threatened to beat him if he ever came near the house again. |

Indeed. I am what most would call a moralist, but if I had a gay child, I would not condemn him/her for being gay. |

Indeed. I am what most would call a moralist, but if I had a gay child, I would not condemn him/her for being gay.
The problem isn't just condemning. Talking from my own experience, when someone's parents talk about how filthy gays are and how they should be burned, etc, the child will be devastated because that's an indirect assault on them. And if they don't put it in words, they will show it by their actions. Some parents act very differently towards their child once they find out they are gay. That's also harmful to the child's development because the child will be conditioned to believe that their parents think that he/she isn't a "worthy" child anymore. |

That's all true, but I don't believe I'd act any differently as I do not view gays as less than anyone else. |

the idea that a parent would reject their child for being gay shows something more obvious: a parent who didnt really care about their child to begin with.
I see this alot. Especially from Fathers. As if their heterosexuality is the only virtue. The things like, he/she is your child or that they are human beings or that feelings are dynamic - nothing is permanent mean nothing to these excuse making hateful parents. |
