Okay, I know there are some people here who really know what they're doing when it comes to comps so I fugure this is the place to ask for some help:
Basicly, i think I might have a virus, and for the life of me, can get rif of it. I think I got it from downloading MP3's off of limewire, anyways, this is what it seems to be doing.
I have absolutely no internet connection. My wireless router and everything else is woking fine because the other computer on the network is not having trouble with the internet. When I look at internet connection in control panel, the screen is blank, showing me that there are no connections at all.
I canot start up windows firewall
During system startup I have about 13-14 processes, the problem is that under the "user name" collumn in the ctl+alt+del processes section, it leaves the processes all blank, save the system idol process which says "SYSTEM".
I have scanned the computer with Spybot, ad-aware SE personal,AVG Free, Microsoft Antispyware, antivir XP, and The shield antivirus 2005. None of these scans have yeilded any results.
Am I screwed or is there anything else I can do? :-| |

| It's times like this - that I would say "f**k it" and reformat. Backup all your data, and then go ahead and wipe the hdd. |

System restore point. Go to START, RUN, and type in MSCONFIG.
At the bottom, click on Launch System Restore.
Find a date before the virus was installed and click on it. Restore the system. |

Don't restore your system when infected with a virus. |

How can he do a virus scan from the net if his internet connection isn't working? I suppose he could download all of the fixes and try each one, but there are a heck of a lot of viruses out there.
Situations like this is why I have a second drive with an OS installed on it. I just switch master/slave drives and then you can do a whole bunch of things to it that you could not when it was the master drive. |

Only if you have a restore point that is guaranteed to be before the infection.Otherwise you just restore and lose data and still reinfect everything.
Are you sure it's a virus and not just a corrupt file? |

He obviously posted to the forum. He can DL this file and copy to disk.
It gets some viruses that other AV's miss. |

He has another computer networked with the router to get it with. |

| Now is when you need the "System File Checker" tool that Windows 98 had. |
