One of the things that has struck me as a great detractor from the "Politics and Government" forum is the fixation that some people have of the actions of past politicians who no longer hold power.
At any given time, there are several threads devoted to Reagan, Bush I or Clinton. I am not saying that there is not interest or purpose in debating the credentials and actions of past presidents, nor that PCF is not an appropriate environment for this. I do believe, however, that because these individuals and the others who are occasionally mentioned hold no political influence, debates about them are of no political importance; thus, they are not suitable for the P & G forums.
I submit then that threads about past politicians who are no longer politically active should be moved to the "Historical Events" forum. Debating about individuals who are no longer politically influential and thus has no real effects on politics is inappropriate, and almost invariably partisan. This change, I believe, would help shift the debate of politics on PCF away from one of partisanship while still allowing people to discuss the legitimate subject of historical past presidents' character(s). |

| Kinda hard to do all of them since Carter and Clinton both stick their 2 cents worth in whenever they can. |

Good point, I hadn't considered that.
Do they have any real influence? |

| that is irrelevant. as long as the topic of the discussion does not fit the historical forum's mode that topic should og to the general forum. |
