|

Do you really comprehend what Easter is?
Question: Would YOU appreciate or enjoy seeing a picture of your near naked body on a crucifix, showing you suffering, other beings going every Sunday to watch and relive over and over your suffering. Is that how you Christians respect a CHRIST? Is this mocking or respect? Think about it. Is it a devilish trick? A lesson? And afterwards you go to Church's chicken and eat chicken or preach being the lamb of God and then go eat lambchops while praying for thanksgiving before the meal and acting as a holy shepherd. Has the whole world been deceived, and for what purpose?
Do you really think Jesus, if he be in heaven or reincarnated or wherever, would like to go to church and see a depiction of him suffering and hanging on a cross over and over? Do you think Jesus would likes it when someone has a cross on their necklace and eats a once living being at Church's Chicken? Do you think that is what Jesus wants or is it a trick to mock him while you all really think you are respecting him? Recently there were riots of Mohammed and beings rioting over his depiction, Yet Christians don't have a problem at all at graphic depictions of Jesus being tortured such as the Passion of the Christ. They flaunt the cross, the pope uses his crucifix cross cane as a crutch., GET THE PUN?

I don't think he would care - it's just a symbol, of which there are many. |

It's an interesting topic. There are some churches that refuse to display a cross. I can't remember what denomination it was, but do recall visiting one.
One of the items that I dislike about Christianity is the tendancy to focus on suffering. Why not focus on the risen and the living instead? Which is why I like the Gnostic stories of Christ mocking the Romans, vs. just sitting there and hanging on a stick.
The cross is a focus for the church, and a morbid obsession at that. But that's just meh' |

It's all about the motive. If your motive is to make God like you you are wasting your time. If on the other hand the purpose is to remind yourself and others exactly what it was Christ our Savior suffered that we might be saved from our own sin then in my opinion you are engaged in a righteous endeavor.
As in most things of this nature within the Christian faith it is all about motive. |

Jesus' sacrifice is the reason we have a possibility of heaven. His crucifixion is a symbol of his triumph over hell (and the devil). Note in the movie, "The Passion," the devil realized he had lost when Jesus died. |

Because Mel Gibson is at the top of my list of people to turn to for unbiased truth and spiritual guidance. |

I watched the movie and I know the History and there are excellent records of how the Romans carried out Crucifixions.
There are also a great many still extant accounts of Roman Military discipline and the whole courtyard scene of the flogging is horribly botched as well as uneccessarily bloody. |

Doesn't the movie show that the guys went overboard with Jesus? …When their superior officer chastised them.
According to Scripture (Isaiah 52:14)…Jesus was beaten so bad that he was hardly recognizable as being a man. |

Roman rules would have forbade Him receiving more than thirty nine lashes especially with a scourge and being scourged across the abdomen disembowels you and you die of shock within moments. The Romans didn't crucify corpses. And any soldier who sneared at his officer the way that one did would have found himself the next one tied to the post. And you don't generally hire people for that sort of Job who enjoy it they are far to likely to get carried away and kill someone you only want maimed.
Nor would they have bothered to flip the cross over, too much trouble and why risk killing or rendering unconscious a man who was supposed to suffer? |

You're mistaken. That was a Jewish rule...not a Roman one. There wasn't much of anything protecting people who were non-Roman citizens. |

| In either case sir the fact is that had he been scourged across the abdomen he would have died before he was ever nailed to the cross. |
