Dog attacks a cop, but instead of shooting it like he could have the dog is tased. I think it was justified.

Kind of mixed opinions on this one, but at least the dog wasn't killed outright.

What do you mean "at least"? The dog was attacking the officer, he would have been justified in shooting it.

I'm firewallwed out of that site at work here... was he attacked by a police dog, or a citizens' dog?

Either way, he was justified to shoot and kill but just because he didn't, doesn't mean that the dog isn't going to be put down. If it's a citizens' dog, it's a dog that attacked and bit, so it will still most likely be killed.

Good. 3 bullets are the cheapest way to end the dog's nussence (sp?) life

It was a citizen's dog that was sicced on a cop.

Meaning they're both alive, aren't they? And exactly whose dog was it, anyway? It would've been pretty crappy to know that it was some neighbor's dog.

Yeah, but don't you agree that the officer would have been justified in shooting it?

Whoever owned the dog sicced it on the officer.

then the cop would have been justified in shooting either the dog (the deadly weapon in this case) or the owner. To me, it's no different than the owner drawing a gun down on the cop. Would the cop have aimed on the gun as opposed to the owner?

But, the problem now is, what do you do with a vicious dog that has attacked people and has been trained to do that all it's life?

You put it down, that's what.

I still think shooting the owner would have been justified, but it's hard to focus on him when a pitbull is locked down on your arm or going for the jugular

Shooting the owner would NOT have been justified, it is very different than if the owner had drawn a gun. When someone draws a gun and threatens to shoot you, the only way to stop them is to kill them. If someone sends a dog on you, shooting the person won't do a signle thing, you need to shoot the dog.

And there is a difference between a vicious dog and one who is trained to attack. Most of the time a trained dog is NOT vicious, merely trained how to act. Dogs can be untrained, it happened after WWII on a massive scale.

a dog can be considered a deadly weapon, just like a gun. To me, if a owner says "sick him Saidi" that's the exact same thing as an owner pulling out a gun.

In fact.... if a cop arrives on a scene, and there is a dog there, on a chain or not, ESPECIALLY if it's a dog typically used for attacking, then a cop should be able to draw down on the dog until the it is put up. And while doing so, telling the owner that if his dog makes a movement that resembles an attack, the dog will be shot, and he will be arrested.

But who pays for the de-training, the taxpayers. Yeah right. Give it an injection and be done with it.

The difference is that once the dog has been sent he can't necessarily be called back.

yeah, i see your point, but that's why a cop should be allowed to have his weapon drawn for a dog that makes him nervous, just like he could draw his gun for a weapon.

Shoot the dog IMO, if it attacks, then arrest the owner for assault with a deadly weapon.

Even now, after the situatino is done, the dog should be destroyed.

It depends entirely on the situation. If it was just as easy to taze the dog as it was to shoot, then tazing would be preferred. However, if there was an added risk in tazing as opposed to shooting, then shooting would be better.

I didn't get a very clear video - would it have been easier to reach for the gun or tazer? I immagine if a dog (it looked like a pit-bull in the video) were running at me, I'd stop it with all immidiate force - be it tazer, gun, or crowbar to the face if I had to. Screw weather it's alive or dead, I'd just be trying to get it to go the hell away, or die.

Do you know why cops use dogs? Because they bite, and bite hard enough to subdue someone.

you're trolling, I can tell, because noone can get a rotweiler off when it attacks. It's jaws can shatter bones in your hands and arm.

ouch, it hurts so bad, would be an understatement.

Unless you are just talking about the dog in this video. I couldn't view it from work. What kind of dog was it. I was just assuming it was an attaack dog, not a jack russell or some yippy dog. All of my shoot to kill the dog statements were based on it being a 100lb kindof an attack dog.

A Rottweiler can exert 1000lbs of pressure per square inch, and pit bulls can exert more. That's a lot, and it hurts. Try it sometime.

If its the video i'm thinking of, the owner should have gotten shot.

theres a video of some fat lady sic'ing her dog on an animal policewoman.

the policewoman is bit, and this fat white trash woman kept saying sic, sic, sic.

shooting the dog wouldnt have been justice. punching the whale/woman in the head would have.
