does it get the rest of you atheists down know that this is it
lately its really got and i started wanting religion simply so id be happy not so id be right which would go against whyi became an atheist in the first place

I've been there, open yourself up, meditate upon it, think about it.....dare I even say, pray about it..........see what happens :-D

Life mattered not at all to you before you were born. Now that you are here, it matters a great deal until the day you die. After that, it matters not at all again. The Meaning of Life is how you live based on the fact that you had no choice in being here. You are a product of the times into which you were born. Once you are here, your choice is to live as you see fit, or put a gun to your head. If you choose to stay, do whatever it takes to die without serious regrets. Death will get you soon enough so being depressed about the short time you have only keeps you from living it up while the music still plays.

It is ego and fear that drives people to search for immortality. They want to be remembered just for being here. That is folly as nearly everyone who came before is no more and no longer remembered. They still were here and their lives mattered as long as they had lives to live. It may seem that death makes living pointless but without death, life would be an endless cycle of tasks, none of which mattered because you would always still be around regardless of what you did.

That life has an end is what allows it to have meaning. If you had nothing but time for as long as the eye could see, then nothing at all would matter...

I use to get depressed, almost suicidal, because I wanted very badly to believe in god. Then it started to hit me that the world hadn't changed. It's still a fascinating, wonderful place. I die, and that s*cks, so I'd better not waste what time I have worrying about it.

Casting off religion has really made me appreciate life all the more, and I don't carry the narrow, dogmatic mindset that I use to. It's allowed me to consider things I never would ave otherwise.

The only thing that depresses me about being atheist, is that the Christians haven't been raptured yet. Sometimes, the disappointment of Jesus pending return...actually gets me quite pissed. :-D

Never worried about this being it...This life has been really something and it only gets better...Athough my heath is not good I make the best of it...

Life is what you make it - if you're depressed then that's your own problem, having nothing to do with theology.

The reason your depressed isn't because you are Atheist..I just think it the sign of the times...The world is a pretty depressing place right now...Just go out and find what good is left..

Eliminated poverty?
Cured a major disease?
Discovered who really killed JFK?

It would be hard becoming depressed knowing that this is it when you still don't know what it actually is.

Don't be so sure that you wouldn't be right. A re-evaluation might be just what you need.

Like Eynon suggested, try prayer. See what happens. If nothing, fine, but would you want to miss the chance that their might be something greater than us out there?

The idea that human beings are the highest beings in the universe is very depressing. I was depressed when I believed in nothing, as well. What intelligent person wouldn't be?

There is always someone who has it worse. Remember that. Be thankful. If this is it, at least you don't face some of the trials and tribulations some do daily.
