san francisco might be in the running to join the michelin guide
btw so what if a person with HIV cuts themselves. put a band aid on it. seriously what kind of restaurant are you running if everyone is cutting themselves? are you hiring illegal immigrants nixon? if this bothers you you should look into where your meat comes from and consider becoming a vegetarian since i am much more turned off by the thought of animals being slaughtered in their own feces and being turned into "food" by some third world peasant who has probably never even heard of a bar of soap. |

Quote: SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - New statistics suggest San Francisco has the highest percentage of gay men among major cities in the world, with a quarter of them HIV-positive, a top city health official said on Friday.
"Despite an overall loss in the population in San Francisco in the last five years, we think there has been an absolute gain in gay men," William McFarland, head of HIV/AIDS statistics at San Francisco's Department of Public Health, said in an interview. "From all the data I have seen ... it's the gayest city in the world."

25% of them are H.I.V. positive as well, which should probably rank Frisco as also the most DANGEROUS city to live in. Right?
Maybe, if you're in the habit of having unprotected anal sex. I think D.C. has the highest per capita murder rate, so I would say that is the most dangerous city. Homophobe.
I'm a homophobe because I don't want to contract a life threatening virus?
I'm in the restaurant business, and someone gets cut in the kitchen once a week. That would make it a dangerous environment in which to work with someone who has H.I.V.
sorry, I'm just talking reality, not sticking to the latest PC mantras.
You may not be a homophobe, but you are afraid of HIV and your resturaunt example shows how irrational your fears of the virus are. If one person cuts themselves and bleeds, the odds of infecting another person even IF they handle the blood with no gloves are miniscule. The only way to increase the chances, and even then it's less than 50%, much less, is if you were to cut yourself as well and they were to bleed into your wound. EVEN then, that's no guarantee, far from it, that you will contract HIV from them. Your restuarant should have a first aid kit in the kitchen with gloves. If anyone cuts themselves and another person must help them, they should use those gloves no matter how minor the injury. And everyone, since it's a kitchen, should wash their hands when they are done before returning to work. You have NO risk of contracting HIV from your work place. If you have unprotected heterosexual sex, then you ARE at risk. That's the most likely way anyone will ever catch HIV. |

The only way blood to blood infection can realible occur is when your actually injecting sizable amounts of blood into the other person.
Aka through blood transfusions and heroin use. |

I never said it was reliable, I said there is a chance if someone bleeds into another's open wound. I don't know the actual odds, but I know it's very very unlikely.
People think that being exposed to HIV guarantees they will contract it. I don't suggest anyone expose themselves to it, but the means by which this virus spreads are very specific. Unfortunately, the main way it spreads is thanks to the very sexual nature of it's host. |

Nice to hear, once again, the homophobic rants coming from the rightwing fringe.
Perhaps they prescribe to Senator Frist's contention and methodology that the jury is still out whether AIDS can be spread through sweat and/or saliva:
Quote: Gerorge: You're a doctor. Do you think tears and sweat can transmit HIV"
Frist: I don't know...I can tell you..
Gerorge: You don't know?
Frist; I can tell you things like,like..condoms..
Gerorge: You believe that tears and sweat might be able to transmit aids?
http://movies.ziaspace.com/FristThis.wmv
This from the same man who diagnosed Terri Shiavo via video.
No wonder so many on the right are ill informed regarding the homosexual community and AIDS. Especially when they listen to this quack.
This is what happens when politics trumps science. And it explains the results of Bush's blatant attempts to distort scientific research in this country.
And, as always, this is just another attack on the beautiful City in which I live.
Very sad... |

I can think of a few cities in Thailand that have more visual homosexual populations. |

| I like this "as long as there's only a small chance of getting HIV, it's cool" mentality. With my luck, there would be blood in the food, I would somehow have a cut in my mouth, and then get HIV. |

Odds are so small, it's not even funny. You aren't willing to take the less than 1% risk of getting HIV in a resturant yet you'd have no qualms getting in your car and driving to the restaurant despite the FACT that 1 in 4 Americans will be killed or injured moderately in their lifetimes in their vehicles?
this isn't about PC or anything, it's just a simple statement that the risk is so small it's not worth losing sleep over. If it's too high for you still, then don't go to San Francisco. |

Indeed. Anyway, I know its irrational, but if I knew someone had AIDS, I wouldn't want to be around them no matter if they were gay or straight. The thought of being around someone with a life threatening disease (whether its easily transferred or not) does not sit well with me. |

It's a natural reaction to shun those who are sick. It's a survival instinct. We all have it built into us. |

If you're afraid of homicides, does that make you a homiphobe?
If you're afraid of homosexuals you really are gay.
If you're afraid of HIV stop ingesting the bodily fluids of strangers, gay or straight. |
