"Born again" is somewhat of an empty term in my opinion. You claim you are "born again," and that makes it so. Bush seems to be one of these self-help Christians. It helped him kick his alcoholism, now he prays alot, etc. I honestly think that he does believe the things that he says, although his Christianity has been emphasized for political gain.

It's not my place to judge whether or not President Bush is "born again," whatever that all entails. Do I believe that the President believes he is "born again?" Most likely. But I'm not God, and neither are you, or anyone on this board, it's not our place to pass such a judgement.

Did you vote for him because he said he was "born again"?

I hate the term "born again." People think that just means they "accepted" Jesus and everything is peaches and cream. Instead of telling Jesus you're "sorry" why don't you show him you are? Go out and volunteer, make the world a better place. Dont' just have some "experience" where you "ask Jesus into your heart." Anyone can claim to be a Christian, it's a whole different ballgame to actually BE a Christian.

Damn, you just actually racked up some respect points with me. Man has hell frozen over?

I hate it too, for the reasons you mentioned, and I'm not even a Christian. Being from Alabama, practically everyone who goes to church claims to be a "born again" Christian. It's nonsense, a bunch of self-congratulating BS. People act that way out of fear and self interest, not out of some genuine desire to follow the teachings of Christ (help others, etc.), as you point out. In fact, I would say most people's religious views in Alabama are more influenced by the old testament than by the gospels. I'm taking a research methods class right now, and a couple of weeks ago everyone in our class had to complete 25 phone surveys containing questions on a host of political/social issues. One of the questions was "do you consider yourself a born-again Christian?" Of my 25, only 2 said they were not "born again." One was a catholic who had moved here from the north, the other was an Indian woman.

No, I just have a sense of humor and an aversion to objectivism. I thought it was a joke.

Well I was only 16 at the time, so I didn't vote, but I would have voted for him. However, what he claims about his religious faith doesn't matter, what matters is the actions he carries out and if they reflect what he claims. However religious affilation matters not, I'd vote for a sincere Hindu over an insincere Christian.

The reason I ask is many of my christian friends voted for him, and when he does bad things like warrentless wire taps, the patriot act, etc. they trust him because he, by their terms, "Is a man of god and he wouldn't do wrong."

That kind of blind faith is scary, especialy when people who want power will use it to their advantage.

Perhaps it's not wise to judge the degradation to which Bush has subjected his own Soul as a consequence of his own inane thoughts and actions, but it *is* your responsibility, as an American citizen, to judge and hold Bush (along w/ the rest of the U.S. government) 1000% accountable for the actions he takes in executing his Constitutional responsibilities..

If Bush is clearly and recklessly endangering the nation and the world, and if he is a menace to this country's Constitution, then it's the responsibility of all Americans everywhere to put an end to his madness, and to the madness that enthroned him in power in the first place.

No and No. Bush, by his actions, word and deeds has proven he is not a christian.

No because he went to war under false pretenses, for oil, and corporate profit. Also for economic greed.
