I'm not saying I hunt for the meat that I eat I shop for it. I find nothing cowardice about defending a persons right to certain vitamins in their diet.
such as some types of fats, red meat has iron, so does brocolli. Not everybody likes brocolli. Meat is Chicken, its sausage its fish I believe its eggs and milk. Leather. People don't eat meat if they don't want to.
Its a hard road though. I don't know how they acomplish their goal.
Its a goal I wouldn't want to acomplish I like that in my diet too much to just stop altogether. |

what about KOSHER food?
Are Jews bleeding-hearts just for wanting their animal killed a certain, "humane" way? |

we should ask the cow what he would prefer
"Cow, do you want to be be killed for my bigmac?"
"MOOOO"
"I take that as a yes"
it amazes me how idealistic that people can truley be when it comes to a dumb animal. |

there is no vitamen, mineral or nutrient that you cannot obtain from a vegan diet alone.to put it another way, you do not need animals or their by-products whatsoever in your diet, if you do "need them", you do it out of conveinience, tradition, and belief in societies common values "defending a persons right to have certain vitamens in their diet".......whta do you mean?
your diet can be changed if your beliefs are strong enough, it is a hard road though,as you say, it makes life akward and inconvienient but the rewards will be reaped. |

leon , cows are female, bulls are male, just goes to show your lack of knowledge on the subject, and do you really have to resort to such pointless humour to display further ignornace on your part? |

want to go farther?
cows are only a bovine that has had a calf
heifers are female bovines that have not had a calf
pregnancy makes the meat tough, so only cows are worth very little for meat
bulls are males
steers are gelded males
testosterone ruins meat, and with the normal situation of 50/50 birth rates the males would either kill eachother off or inbreeding would render the herd "infeasible"
cattle are no longer natural beings, their environment requires human manipulation for them to survive properly, they exist to serve, if they werent of service they would not be able to exist, it is a symbiotic relationship, the species survives because we have use for them, humans can survive without bovines, bovines cannot survive without humans, at least not modern breeds, longhorns and some funky breeds from africa and asia maybe, but not western world beef bovines |

Jason of Ireland and AD,
You guys/gals crack me up every time I read your posts.
Killing an animal for food is no more cruel than harvesting plants for food. Torturing an animal is different than killing an animal for consumption. You two need to be able to distinquish between torturing and killing.
A vegan diet is all good and proper for you, but it is not for me and all my fellow omnivores. You have made your decission not to eat meat and we, omnivores, respect and praise you for your commitments; but we need you to keep your closed minds and toughts to yourselves because we enjoy both meat and vegetables.
Killing an animal for food is never cruel, immoral, or unethical.
I used to think a certain use of animals is cruel; but after seeing how the animals enjoy the activities, my mind has changed. |

ethics are defined by public opinion
if we think it's ok, that makes it ok |

nope
Why is that different humans view what cows actually are differently, for instance, some countries use cows as slaves, sell them, slaughter them, and eat them, and that cow is then a part of them while those humans also sometimes call the cow inferior.
Other countries, like India, respect cows and do not wish them harm.
What is better in your opinion? What is GOOD and what is evil in your opinion?

| The people in India are afraid to smack bugs, in fear of killing a re-incarnated family member. |

Tell me about it, my dad went to India and some of the things he talks about are just sad. |

Hmmm, starvation in the U.S., not a problem. In fact, the main problem with the poor in the U.S. is obesity, not starvation. According to the WFP, 50% of the world's hungry population lives in India. 35% of Indians are "food-insecure" meaning that they get below 80% of required nutrition on a daily basis.[url=http://www.wfp.org/country_brief/indexcountry.asp?region=5§ion=9&sub_section=5&country=356]

I think America is better (admittedly, I'm not a cow). |
